Raahim Khan was fourteen when the First Rikti War erupted and the skies over Kuala Lumpur turned to fire. The invasion devastated Malaysia’s capital, and Raahim lost both parents in the bombardment. Rescued by the newly formed Vanguard, he grew up amid the wreckage of reconstruction—quiet, fiercely intelligent, and determined to never feel powerless again.
By his late teens, Raahim had falsified his age to enlist in Vanguard, joining the Helm Division, the organization’s intelligence and field-analysis branch. There, he distinguished himself through his sharp tactical instincts, photographic memory, and fluency in pattern recognition. His early service placed him under The Dark Watcher, where he operated in the Rikti War Zone, analyzing enemy movements and intel and coordinating counter-espionage against Rikti operations.
It was during one such operation that Raahim’s fate changed forever. Deep beneath the War Zone, his unit uncovered a containment facility running on a form of stellar energy no human instrument could categorize. Inside, imprisoned and dying, was a Kheldian—codenamed Apastron. The entity had been captured years earlier while on a mission for the Kheldian Covenant, attempting to warn Earth of the coming Rikti invasion. The Rikti had instead used it as a living energy source, dissecting its luminous essence in pursuit of weaponized light.
When the strike team was ambushed, Raahim was critically wounded attempting to disable the containment field. In its final moments, Apastron reached out telepathically, offering fusion as the only way for either to survive. The merge was instantaneous—a searing unity of will, light, and memory. When Raahim awoke days later in a Vanguard triage station, his physiology had changed, his body now suffused with radiant Kheldian energy. He was reborn as Moonbeam.
Moonbeam first appeared publicly during the Second Rikti War, fighting alongside Vanguard and the Lady Grey Task Force. His mastery of luminous energy and calm, precise command under fire made him one of Vanguard’s most reliable operatives. In the aftermath of the war, Moonbeam honored Apastron’s final directive, leaving Earth from 2012 to 2019 to assist the Kheldian Covenant across allied worlds resisting the Nictus and their galactic proxies.
By 2019, Moonbeam returned to Paragon City—a veteran of both earthly and cosmic battlefields. His efforts to unify intelligence between the Covenant and Earth’s metahuman defense network drew the attention of Starforge, who extended an invitation to join the Global Defense Force. Accepting the post as Malaysia’s national hero and Southeast Asia’s representative within the UN-backed GDF, Moonbeam now serves as a luminous guardian of Earth’s future, embodying the synthesis of human resilience and Kheldian light.
Raahim Khan presents as an efficient, highly analytical, and mission-oriented individual. His demeanor is calm to the point of austerity, giving the impression of emotional distance in casual interaction. Field observations confirm this is a learned behavior rather than an inherent detachment. Psychological interviews indicate that his experiences during the First Rikti War, compounded by the traumatic loss of his parents and extended exposure to large-scale destruction, have resulted in a strong aversion to dependency and vulnerability. He is most comfortable operating in structured environments where objectives are clear and parameters well defined. Among colleagues, he is regarded as dependable, unflappable, and unerringly precise, though not especially approachable.
Raahim exhibits exceptional cognitive agility, consistent with both his Vanguard intelligence training and the enhanced neural processing associated with Kheldian symbiosis. He displays strong pattern recognition, rapid situational assessment, and an ability to model probable outcomes under duress—skills that have made him invaluable in tactical and intelligence coordination roles within the GDF.
Emotionally, Moonbeam maintains tight self-regulation. This discipline, while advantageous in the field, has created a disconnect between internal emotion and outward expression. He experiences empathy deeply but demonstrates it subtly, often through acts of protection or self-sacrifice rather than verbal reassurance. His file notes recurrent avoidance of emotional intimacy—a residual defense against loss and survivor’s guilt originating from the destruction of Kuala Lumpur.
Moonbeam is a merged entity of Raahim Khan and the Kheldian known as Apastron, granting him the hybrid traits of light-based energy beings. This union allows him to generate, manipulate, and embody photonic energy for offense, defense, and propulsion. His body functions as both organic and energetic matter, enabling him to survive in hostile environments, including vacuum and deep-space conditions, without life-support.
Luminous Manipulation
As a Peacebringer, Moonbeam channels radiant energy to devastating effect:
• Energy Projection: Emits concentrated photonic blasts such as Gleaming Bolt, Radiant Strike, and Luminous Detonation, capable of breaching heavy armor and neutralizing Rikti shielding.
• Area Attacks: Powers like Solar Flare and Dawn Strike release controlled photonic eruptions, dispersing enemies and clearing the field for further engagement.
• Photon Seekers: Creates autonomous spheres of condensed starlight that seek out and detonate upon hostiles.
• Incandescent Strike: A precision melee channel that focuses stellar energy into a single catastrophic impact, often disabling targets with radiant concussive force.
Form Shifting
Moonbeam can alter his state between three distinct Kheldian forms:
• Human Form: Balanced between strength, speed, and tactical adaptability. Retains all communication and analytical functions, and is capable of atmospheric or orbital flight without transformation.
• Bright Nova: A high-velocity, aerial combat form optimized for energy projection and rapid multi-target engagement. The Mefnanim-derived Nova state emphasizes mobility and sustained ranged fire.
• White Dwarf: A dense, gravitationally anchored form patterned on the Kurukt species, granting immense durability, near-total resistance to most physical and energy attacks, and the ability to draw enemy fire through Antagonize and Flare attacks.
Quantum Flight and Phasing
Through Quantum Flight, Moonbeam manipulates his photonic field to move seamlessly through matter and deflect kinetic force. He can accelerate to hypersonic speeds within atmosphere, and reach relativistic velocity in space by bending local gravity vectors. The phasing effect also renders him intangible for short durations, allowing infiltration or evasion of energy-based barriers.
Defensive and Regenerative Powers
• Shining, Thermal, and Quantum Shields: Layered light-field matrices that provide resistance to kinetic, elemental, and energy damage.
• Light Form: Converts his body into pure energy, granting extreme resilience and partial immunity to immobilization, disorientation, and knockback.
• Essence and Reform Protocols: Self-healing abilities allowing cellular and photonic regeneration even after catastrophic injury.
• Restore Essence: An emergency resurrection mechanism that reconstitutes his body following physical destruction.
Invisibility: Through concentration and manipulation of his energy matrix, he can become nearly undetectable to both visual and energy based means of detection, while increasing his own defense as well.
Vanguard Conditioning
During his service under the Helm Division of Vanguard, Moonbeam received extensive tactical and psychological training in:
• Counterintelligence & Threat Analysis: Expertise in identifying infiltration patterns, disinformation, and alien subversion operations.
• Combat Flight Operations: High-speed aerial maneuvering, target prioritization, and coordination in multi-vector engagements.
• Tactical Communication: Secure long-range coordination through telepathic and quantum-frequency channels across the Beacon network.
• Hand-to-Hand and Field Survival: Reinforced by his Kheldian physiology, he is capable of superhuman feats of strength and endurance equivalent to mid to high tier superhumans, and is rigorously trained in multiple forms of hand to hand combat, such as Krav Maga, Silat, Kickboxing, and Judo.
Strength and Durability
In human form, Moonbeam’s physical strength is far beyond human norms—estimated at Class 80+ levels, capable of halting the descent of a commercial airliner or deflecting armored assault craft mid-flight. His resilience enables him to endure orbital re-entry, nuclear-level concussions, and prolonged exposure to cosmic radiation without lasting damage.
In his White Dwarf Form, his strength increases further still, but primarily translates to superhuman durability and mass, and withstanding attacks that would otherwise be fatal in human form.
Tactical Role
Within the Global Defense Force, Moonbeam serves as an Intelligence and Counterintelligence Specialist, applying his combined Vanguard and Kheldian expertise to identify extraterrestrial threats and infiltration attempts against the Beacon and Earth’s defense network. His analytical precision, disciplined demeanor, and near-instant battlefield adaptability make him a critical operative in both strategic command and front-line response scenarios.
⸻
After years serving the Vanguard and on the advent of his service as a member of the Global Defense Force, Moonbeam has undergone what the FBSA officially classifies as Incarnate Evolution—a process through which certain metahumans transcend conventional physical and energetic limits to tap directly into the Well of the Furies, the metaphysical source of primal creation energy within the multiverse.
During his time assisting the Kheldian Covenant beyond Earth’s atmosphere, Moonbeam’s prolonged exposure to stellar phenomena and concentrated Nictus energy signatures catalyzed a permanent resonance within his Kheldian makeup. Upon his return to Paragon City, contact with the Well transformed that resonance into a focused, self-sustaining Incarnate spark.
Today, Moonbeam stands as a fully realized Incarnate Peacebringer, operating as one of the most powerful energy-based heroes in the Global Defense Force.
⸻
Incarnate Abilities
Judgment: Void (Wormhole Collapse)
Moonbeam manifests a controlled singularity of radiant gravity—a wormhole that folds both space and light inward. This creates an implosive vortex that draws in hostiles before detonating outward in a burst of photonic annihilation. The attack collapses shields and atrophies defenses, but due to its power is only used when necessary.
⸻
Destiny: Ageless (Luminous Energy Infusion)
By unlocking the full regenerative potential of his Kheldian-human matrix, Moonbeam can channel infinite radiant energy through his allies, halting fatigue, reversing cellular decay, and stabilizing metabolic strain. This field of pure light renders surrounding combatants effectively tireless for the duration of battle and neutralizes debilitation effects.
⸻
Hybrid: Assault (Luminous Overcharge)
Moonbeam can temporarily overload his own photonic field, causing his entire body to become a charged weapon. In this Assault state, his kinetic output and energy projection amplify exponentially, his strikes leaving afterimages of light that continue burning in the air. This form blends the offense of his Bright Nova state with the resilience of his human body, making him a devastating mid-range combatant.
⸻
Alpha: Cardiac (Cosmic Endurance)
Through focused control of his merged physiology, Moonbeam converts cosmic radiation into fuel, vastly enhancing stamina, power efficiency, and self-sustainment. The Cardiac Alpha channel allows him to operate indefinitely without exhaustion, sustaining constant high-output energy states like Light Form and Quantum Flight without noticeable strain. His body literally pulses like a star, each heartbeat recycling energy across his system.
⸻
Lore: Vanguard (Helm Unit Manifestation)
As a symbol of unity between human ingenuity and Kheldian light, Moonbeam can project a quantum echo of his former Vanguard squad, summoning a duo of hard-light operatives armed with luminous weaponry and tactical shielding. These semi-sentient constructs fight with Vanguard discipline, acting as force multipliers in large-scale engagements. Their presence reinforces the ideal that no warrior truly fights alone.
Despite his formidable power and Incarnate evolution, Moonbeam is not without vulnerabilities—both physical and psychological. His Kheldian heritage, hybrid physiology, and personal psychology impose specific limitations that define his operational profile.
⸻
Kheldian Vulnerabilities
Quantum Array Weaponry:
Kheldians and their Peacebringer descendants are uniquely vulnerable to weapons designed to exploit their photonic resonance. Devices such as Quantum Array Rifles, Nictus disruptors, and other anti-Kheldian technologies can pierce Moonbeam’s otherwise resilient light-field defenses, inflicting disproportionate damage or temporarily destabilizing his energy matrix.
Negative Energy Sensitivity:
Moonbeam’s luminous form reacts violently to concentrated Negative Energy. Prolonged exposure to shadow or entropy-based attacks can weaken his molecular cohesion, impairing his ability to maintain Bright Nova or White Dwarf form stability.
Symbiotic Instability:
The merge between Raahim Khan and the Kheldian Apastron is sustained through constant equilibrium. Disruptive psionic interference, dimensional displacement, or energy nullification fields can momentarily desynchronize their bond—resulting in disorientation, power dampening, or in extreme cases, physical separation. Such separation would be catastrophic and even potentially fatal for both entities.
Form Trade-offs:
• Bright Nova offers speed and firepower but minimal defense, leaving Moonbeam vulnerable to precision or high-impact strikes.
• White Dwarf provides immense durability but limited mobility and ranged offense, often forcing him into close-quarters combat where coordinated enemy tactics can exploit his focus on tanking.
Switching between forms drains energy reserves, requiring timing and precision during combat transitions.
• Light Form offers incredible energy manipulation and defensive capabilities, but extended use of this form can lead to exhaustion and a window of vulnerability after use that can be exploited.
⸻
Physiological Constraints
Psionic Susceptibility:
Although resistant to most forms of energy manipulation, Moonbeam’s hybrid mind remains partly organic. Skilled telepaths or Nictus weapons can attempt to exploit his dual consciousness, sowing internal conflict or triggering resonance backlash within his symbiosis to Apastron.
⸻
Psychological Limitations
Self-Sacrificial Tendencies:
Moonbeam’s early trauma from the Rikti War forged a deep fixation on responsibility and protection. He routinely prioritizes mission success and civilian safety over his own well-being, often to reckless extremes. This compulsion toward self-sacrifice makes him prone to overextension and solitary engagement in high-risk operations.
Isolation and Emotional Detachment:
Though respected as a disciplined and efficient operative, Moonbeam maintains few close relationships. His reserved demeanor and tendency to internalize pain alienate potential allies. He views emotional vulnerability as a liability, a belief reinforced by years of intelligence work where attachment was often exploited as weakness.
Burden of Duality:
As a merged being, Moonbeam constantly navigates two overlapping identities: the human Raahim and the Kheldian Apastron. The two share a harmonious partnership, yet subtle philosophical divergences occasionally manifest—Apastron’s instinct for unity and transcendence contrasting with Raahim’s human need for individuality and control. These moments of discord can cause temporary lapses in focus or energy harmonization.
Guilt and Control:
Haunted by survivor’s guilt and the memory of the Rikti War’s devastation, Moonbeam often seeks absolute control in both his missions and emotions. This rigidity sometimes clashes with the adaptability required of GDF operations, creating tension with teammates who favor improvisation or emotional transparency.
