General Information/Backstory
Colossal Knight, the name taken from old online accounts of his, is a superhero hailing from Kings Row. Colossal Knight's true identity is James Maddox, but goes by Jay. Once growing up in Atlas Park, Jay has lived in Kings Row for several years now following the deaths of both his parents when he was a teenager.
Now 23 years old, Jay still resides in Kings Row. While the zone is naturally his biggest focus, his concerns cover the entire city. Since officially starting his hero career, he's been a member of the supergroup known as the Advocators for over a year now.
Favorite food is pizza.
Jay grew up in Atlas Park near the Kings Row entrance. His father was a mechanical engineer and the parent Jay inherited his red hair from. His mother, on the other hand, moved to Earth from another planet. Her home planet and life there was an extremely touchy and private subject to her. The story of his mother moving to Earth, her life on her home planet, and life there is a story his mother refused to share and, as Jay might tell you, if his father knew he never let on either. Both parents were loving parents, and moreso in their own little ways. His mother wasn't the most excitable person, to which his father could be the opposite. His mother was far more the stern parent to his father's easy-goingness. Not that his mother was unemotional. Far from it! Both loved Paragon and Jay and did their best to teach him a sense of equality, fairness, and compassion. Lessons which definitely settled in him over the years.
And not the least due to treatment on a personal level he experienced as a child. Being half-alien was not the easiest fact after the Rikti first showed up. Though clearly having nothing to do with it, many of the kids at the school he attended virtually outcasted him. There were those who didn't, but they were far fewer sadly. During his last year in high school, his parents sadly were murdered by the Family. It was an event Jay witnessed, but has no real memory of for his mind has blocked the memory completely out to this very day. Sadly, the effects of the event have still been all too real leaving him with matters he's still working on overcoing.
Through the years between his parents' murders and present day, Jay has gone from a homeless (his stint of homelessness is a fact an extremely few people know of) high school graduate to ironically working as a janitor at his former school while doing his best to maintain his secret work as a superhero.
Personality
Jay tends to be a very easy-going, relaxed, and friendly person. Throw in a level or two of shyness and awkwardness, and you'll have a bit of an idea of Jay's personality. As helpful and protective as he can be for people in general, it's far more so for people he's particularly close to and attached to. If you need help, he will do his best to help you if at all possible.
Though at the same time, the old saying of "beware the anger of a gentle man" holds true for Jay and few places are more likely for this to be exhibited than when it comes to people he cares about being hurt, especially his girlfriend Changeling.
Jay also has a particular soft spot when it comes to kids.
War With The Family
Colossal Knight has shown a particular disdain towards The Family, a group Colossal Knight has an unfortunate long-time sordid past with. In particular, Colossal Knight has been on the hunt for a specific person within the Family in order to bring to the justice he deserves to face. So far, the man's identity and location remain unknown. Working with a myserious informant, Jay's fight with the Family has only increased thanks to the mysterious helper who claims to also have beef with the Family. But who and why has yet to be discovered.
Notable Incidents
Notable incidents Colossal Knight, outside of "official" Advocator happenings, has taken part in alone or with a group of fellow heroes:
- Mutants and Malta - Malta staging an operation in Kings Row involving kidnapping of mutant civilians whose powers, while not strong enough to actively be superheroes, would benefit Malta all the same. Jay and a few fellow heroes put an end to the operation.
- The Crey Portal Incident - A Portal Corporation contact alerted Jay to a warehouse of theirs being robbed and portal technology being stolen. Eventually it was discovered that a group of Outcasts had been paid off to commit the robbery, which caused a virtual army of Skulls to hit the streets to hunt them down. Once that situation was dealt with, Jay and aiding superheroes found their way to a secret, illegal lab operated by Crey Industries...who turned out to be who had paid the Outcasts to begin with. Unfortunately, Rikti also managed to discover the lab and were attacking at the same time. The incident was resolved by the heroic group.
- Cold as Ice - While patrolling with fellow Advocator and girlfriend known as Changeling, the two encountered a ice-theme group robbing a Crey cryogenics lab on Peregrine Island. The robbery was led by a new supervillain known as Iceover, a one time good-natured cryogenics scientist now trapped in a cryogenics suit due to actions by the Crey Corporation. The villain is trying to save his wife's life in the process.
- Psychic Mindscape Rescue - Teaming up with fellow Advocator known as Crimson Mite, Colossal Knight went into the psychic mindscape of also fellow Advocator Unanimous. The psychic retreated into her mind, becoming imprisoned by a darkness in her after an incident the group faced against the Carnvial of Shadows. Facing off against the darkness, dubbed Reign, the two Advocators managed to rescue and retrieve their friend.
- An Old Friend - An old friend he was left with bad memories involving, Heather Claire Walt, Jay discovered this very person was abducted by the Carnival of Shadows to induct into their group preying on those very bad memories and feelings. Fortunately, with help from two other Advocators, Changeling and Gentleman Ice, the induction was stopped and Heather Claire was rescued.
- Just Like Clockwork - With the aid of a fellow Advocator, several Clockwork princes taking residence in an abandoned Kings Row warehouse were destroyed.
- And That's Just Terrible - When fellow Advocator and girlfriend Changeling's birthday rolled around, the two were set to pick up her birthday cake when the worst happened--a Fae called Pixie Stix and her army of Red Caps took over the bakery's storehouse. The two managed to save the day and her birthday cake.
- They Dig From Below! - After a small earthquake, Advocator Crimson Mite asked fellow Advocators Mystic Red and Colossal Knight to check things out with her. Shortly after, the trio came across a mysterious race of sentient, humanoid mole people, who seemed to be fans of communism. After rescuing several hostaages, the trio found themselves underground needing to disarm several bombs before causing more damage to Paragon.
- Goblins and Geocaching - Celebrating his own birthday, Changeling and CK set out to locate a recently placed geocache in the old subway system of Kings Row. In the process, they encountered a surprising sight--a literal army of goblins! The goblins were led by a ruler named Gareth, who was searching for the same cache, having mistaken it for a "real" treasure. The goblins eventually retreated, the cache was found, and the two earned a FTF!
- Death and Taxes - With help from fellow Advocator and friend Phantasmia, the two went into a Kings Row bank to stop the Skulls from robbing it. What initially was expected to be a "simple" bank robbery turned out to be duress-induced. This is because, at the same time, a Family loan shark and his crew had taken over a Skull hideout and was holding the lead robber's girlfriend hostage. If a debt between the Skull named Aidyn and the loan shark, then the Family loan shark would kill Aidyn's girlfriend. Fortunately, the two heroes stopped both incidents and arrested those involved (with making sure to note to authorities the loan shark had been holding the girlfriend hostage).
Notable (NPC) People In Jay's Life
- Heather Claire Walt - Forner crush and friend of Jay's and the two have known one another since childhood. Were friends up until a bad event in high school happened leaving him with bad memories and embarrassment. Relatively recently, the two have come back into contact after being rescued from the Carnival of Shadows (though she is not aware Jay was one of the three heroes who saved her). Now works as a new teacher at their old school...the same school Jay himself works at.
- Alvin - A local Kings Row homeless resident. A former Marine vet, Alvin and Jay met when Jay first drifted into Kings Row at a time he himeself was going through a time of homelessness. Jay was among the homeless Alvin particularly looked after and cared for.
- Dr. William Frost - One time brilliant scientist with a focus in cryonics. Formerly worked at Crey. Due to acts by a Crey employee, Frost's body was altered to requiring exceedingly freezing temperatures. What would be a normal temperature for anyone else would be beyond burning hot for him. In order to survive, Frost is stuck in a cryogenics suit he built. Currently in the Zig focused on saving his frozen wife's life.
- Father Rico - A Catholic priest working at a church in Kings Row. Comparable to a certain MASH priest in attitude and personality, Father Rico serves the community any way he can. Has a particular focus on helping people leave lives of crime and gang life behind.
- Pixie Stix & David the Redcap - Pixie Stix is a sugar-crazy Fae. Not a "villain" in a traditional sense, her activities tend to be pretty tame. Especially by Paragon City standards. With the help of her sidekick David, she has eyes only for things on the sweet, sugary side of life and wants to eat as much as she can there.
Hooks
In addition to some of the notable events Jay has been apart of above (that would have been reported on the news), here's other possible hooks to play off of:
1) "The Bright Knight of Kings Row" - Jay, as his superhero persona, is fairly well-known in Kings Row especially. The locals and the news often refer to him as "the Bright Knight of Kings Row" due to his armor.
2) The Family - Jay has been particularly targeting The Family for some time now, and often very publicly. If you want help fighting the Family or something related to causing problems for them, he likely will be more than happy to help.
3) The Advocators - Jay is a member of the supergroup known as the Advocators, who recently had a very reported incident and battle with the Carnival of Shadows in Atlas Park where they battled a crew led by Missy Masquerade and her sidekick Mr. Stumpy.
