Biography

He was born in Baltimore in Maryland. Owen in his youth grew up in a working-class family and throughout his peaceful and joyful lifestyle and childhood with colorfulness he had. He faced tragedy at the age of five. his loving father was diagnosed with cancer stage four. Being, unfortunately, the terminal at its worst, while his father was dying in a hospital bed surrounded by his family and young Owen. His father left young Owen with a smile and kindness and was with him before he tragically passed away. During his adolescence in his teenage years, he was just a regular nerd and an outcast, he gained fascination over insects and was a gifted genius. Wanting to be an aspiring entomologist. He was constantly researching to find a cure for any illnesses.

That was until his senior years when he landed a job at a science lab in Steel Canyon called Astro Corporation as he's working there as a chemical engineer. While he's continuously researching insects and the notion of superpowers, believing granting someone the powers of an insect could do the trick through the form of a pill. While inventing, due to his pessimism. He believed that it wouldn't do the work and simply was just lingering to a tragic loss over nothing, being fairly upset over himself. He continued to study in hopes that one day, he could fulfill his dream into a reality through his intelligence despite facing everyday problems. While doing his average day-to-day lifestyle and dealing with unwarranted family dramas as his goal was to graduate from high school and go to a decent college.

His life would change forever, while working at his job, he was under attack by a supervillain who demanded her selfish interests. In the heat of the moment, Owen took one of his pills, and suddenly, he was granted the proportionate strength, powers, and abilities of a Hercules beetle for an hour at a time. As he took random clothing and a random piece of cloth as his mask to disguise his identity, he emerged from the scene and confronted the supervillain. after a big battle ensued, Owen without any issues defeated the threatful supervillain that she was. Many lives were rescued that day, everyone. He realized because he stepped in, everyone was safe and rescued, and going back home to their families with joy and happiness after he stepped in made a difference.

The realization made him also understand that his invention can be used more than a simple science or any of the norm, where he no longer felt the notion of helplessness since the day he lost his father in his youth and can continue so no longer feeling that. After weeks of thoughtfulness, he decided to become more than just a regular nerd, more than just a wallflower. This might push back his dreams, nevertheless. He believes it was worth it, a decision he made that he would take upon and accept with open arms, a refusal to allow any furtherance of pain and misery of others go by ever again, to see supervillains terrorize Paragon City with nothing but sadism and evil purposes that seeks nothing but destruction and chaos, he can defend lives and save them as Pillbug.

Personality

Owen is an average, normal, regular nerd, an everyman who deals with daily struggles, he often is an introvert who tends to be unsociable only with friends that he feels comfortable and close to, he's unfortunately troubled because of his pessimism and tragedy he faced in his life which is also an extension to dealing with family drama. He often tends to be very protective of his identity which often he does his best to keep a secret, only to reveal those that are trustworthy with his secret to protect his loved ones from any endangerment if it goes from a random thug to a supervillain. He possesses gifted intelligence and has a fascination for insects because he can empathize with them for being looked at and treated as an outcast like Owen. Nevertheless, he tries to work hard for his family and himself to achieve his dreams one day but being busy due to his superhero career hinders him from accomplishing his dreams into a reality. Owen is very empathetic for those who are in need and cries for help, this stems from the fact of his refusal to feel the notion of helplessness ever since he lost his father to cancer.

As Pillbug, he's a completely different person from his alter ego. He's a wisecracking, one-lining, witty retort, sarcastic, motormouth, who throws and cracks jokes and one-liners to sarcastic remarks and insulting jokes with his sense of humor. He does this to strengthen his insect theme to bug his enemies and to distance himself from overly optimistic, brave, bright, and heroic heroes and dark, brooding, brutal, full of darkness type. He likes to be the wisecracking hero, though some suggest his sense of humor might stem from the fact he might have some form of napoleon complex because of his troubled struggles but also doesn't like being treated under tread foot. Nevertheless, he's heroic and a people's hero who often takes his time to save the lives of Paragon City such as the hometown he's from he grew up. Despite his heroics, he tends to struggle at the fact he makes a lot of enemies for always foiling their plans, while his reputation is stable for the most part and recognized by many in Paragon City. He can't help shake the feeling that his superhero work can often be distracting to his average life of his.

While his identity is kept secret and still fights off crime as Pillbug, he tends to lack self-confidence over himself which often can put him into scenarios where he might be unsure of himself or doubt, but he tries his best as he develops through his adventures as a superhero that he might hope one day it could solve all his problems from his troubled lifestyle to the crime-fighting path he chose, he fights crimes because of his beliefs that, he might've been incapable and helpless to save his father from cancer, but he can save others as Pillbug so he doesn't have the painful feeling within that he's incapable of saving lives, not out of the "right thing" or law establishment or the society's core objective agreement or choosing one's alignment. But because of his own personal motives drive him into becoming the crime-fighter that he is. He never cares about his reputation or what the public thinks of him, his only concern is that regular joes like him are safe and sound from any threats that may arrive in Paragon City while cracking a joke during a battle. Underneath the mask, he's just a regular nerd who likes to research insects.

Despite his conflicts, Owen prioritizes his family and loved ones as Pillbug prioritizes innocent lives, he still does his best even if he has to face the consequences for his actions and makes his own stands, during his adventures, he's formed a lot of relationships with heroes such as becoming part of a team and an honorary member of the Justice Squadron for helping them when they are in need and many other afflictions, despite also creating a lot of enemies as well. Pillbug struggles with overdependence on his pills which is simply increased by his motivational justifications. Because of this, he's mindful of what he does and tries to keep it balanced, he often struggles with a lot of average problems that many tend to deal with, he's at the end, a neutral hero, leaned back and down-to-earth in every significance, someone who isn't supposed to be a symbolic or mythical, but local at best who just does what he does for what's his best of interests. Makes his own path and adventures through his personal motivations, someone who refuses to feel helpless anymore but to make a difference.

Friends Icon: Their relationship was met through the team Justice Squadron, she often is concerned for Owen's struggles and often gets into ideological conflicts with Wyverness. She often is a good friend to Owen and helps him with his adventures. Proudstar: Their relationship is a bit of a mess but worked out well through her boyfriend Cosmic. She more or less sees him as an annoying lonely friend who purposefully gave him her black credit card for being unable to afford a cinnamon roll. Polite: A strange one at best, while their relationship is figuratively unique, Polite often tries to be the intelligent teacher to Owen and often puts into a lot of complex assignments to test out and help improve passively and test his intelligence. Cosmic: Their relationship is close and connective mutual understanding, Liam is often the older brother to Owen who understands his average life, he's often there to help him and be there for him whenever he wants to talk to someone about their struggles. Hibernia: She often acts as the older sister to Owen, supportive and kind despite the strong and powerful personality she carries, she tends to help him whenever he needs a support or helping hand from any form of problems he might be in whenever he's a superhero. Wyverness: Despite the ideological conflicts they throw each other, they work well together whenever it would come to any form of situations, with her deductive expertise and his gifted intelligence, they would make a formidable duo whenever it comes to situations.

• Butt-Monkey - Owen is often dealing with a troublesome lifestyle. From living in Baltimore, losing his father to cancer, moving to Paragon City, this made matter worse that he was often made fun of by his siblings for his fascination for insects and often treated as an outcast because of it for their lack of not wanting any association with his interests. Despite finding a job at his work, it is hardly any big or significant like Crey Industries or SERAPH. Even after becoming a superhero, Owen is often treated as a laughing stock in social interactions, and slightly lacking financially leads Proudstar to give him her black card just to afford a cinnamon roll. This might explain Owen gained a form of napoleon complex for his genuine distaste of being treated tread foot, something that strengthens his love for insects as he can relate to them. Nevertheless, he often deals with regular problems because of his bad luck and other struggles such as the overdependence of his pills.

• Cannot Talk to Women - Owen isn't Casanova or really good at talking to pretty heroines and gals. Which often leads to him not being able to interact with them or get their phone number. Owen was even poked fun at for looking like a nerd (which he is) to an extension. Even when being Pillbug, he's still unable to really get decent interaction without being blown off or scrutinized for who he is due to his sense of humor and liking to insects. He does try and work on himself and hopes that one day he could manage, but needless to say. His superhero work can distract him from his saddening love life and usually tends to focus on trying to help his family and himself. Owen does display a bit of shyness and awkwardness when attempting to.

• Friend to Bugs - Owen has fascination and intimacy with insects and arthropods. As he can relate to them for being treated tread foot and an outcast and judged for their interests. Owen often collects bugs and researches them and wants to be an aspiring entomologist, often researching their biology, psychological behavior, and alike. Often believed that insects' providence to humanity could be much more and their genetic information to cure illnesses and alike as well. His fascination began due to insects' capabilities and proportional strengths that began his research as they are more capable than people might think. Owen's expertise on insects often helped him in any form of entomological-related situations and proven himself a genius in the field of entomology without any difficulties. His liking to them has often helped him when inventing his bug pills.

• Chronic Hero Syndrome - Owen may possess hyper empathy where it results him being more emotional than most to certain events and things. Owen has a bad case of caring too much, too much for his own good in fact. This stems from the fact of his losing his father to cancer at the age of five and increased by his personal motives of refusing to feel the notion of helplessness and fragility when someone cries in need. This is attributed to the fact that throughout his teenage years was to find a cure to any illnesses and a big reason he became a superhero was to no longer feel incapable of saving lives like when he couldn't with his father. Where he can make the unavoidable, avoidable. His intense care for innocence due to his refusal to feel incapability resulted in him getting into arguments with Justice Squadron member Wyerness about saving lives where she priorities mission above all else while Owen focuses on the lives of others within the missions and the casualties such as the traumatic death of Mr. Lao. And when failing, Owen feels emotionally saddened. He would even go as far as to help mere insects such as helping a grasshopper get swarmed by ants. This is problematic as it increases his addictive issues and his need for his pills a lot more.

• Genius Bruiser - Owen possesses gifted intelligence and proven himself a genius in the field of science, technology and entomology to even meta-physiology. His pills grant him a variety of bug powers for an hour at a time, for example, the Hercules beetle pill grants him super strength, durability, stamina and endurance, and alike. Becoming extremely powerful and tough that could pick up four-stagged buses with ease and tank bullets but he's also a genius in battle which makes him dangerous at best for it and annoying with his wisecracking retorts. He's often holding himself back and does not harm anyone unless they are equally or greater power to allow using a fraction of his strength, but even when an hour runs out. He still uses his intelligence to find other means to use at his enemies for his short duration before taking another pill. He prefers to use his genius and jokes rather than power more often than not.

• The Everyman - Owen underneath the mask, is just a regular nerd who deals with everyday struggles and family drama like any other guys and gals would deal with. Even his job isn't entirely special or considered big occupational importance other than just having a laboratory to work at and get back home just being him. Owen isn't a special individual who displays importance but simply is just a guy who rolls with what life gives him in his path and adventures. He often is assumed to be many things, but when revealed. Is entirely different or hardly recognized as important. Needless to say, he keeps his identity a secret for a variety of reasons. Owen lives a fairly average life and goes around and comes around Paragon City.

• I Shall Taunt You - Owen has a sense of humor and uses it as Pillbug, he crack jokes to strengthen his bug-theme by "bugging" his enemies. Being a wisecracker often can make others annoyed or find it insulting such as him making either quips or passive insults through his remarks. The sheer brutality within his jokes often leads others to tell him to cool the level of his sense of humor. He does this to also distance himself from stereotypical heroes to be the leaned-back, down-to-earth ones.

• Descent Into Addiction - Owen suffers from over-dependence of his pills, this could be due to its chemistry which often has affected him physically and mentally such as exhaustion and reactive behaviors at times, because of it he often hides it from his team and friends to avoid worriedness from others. This is merely increased further for his chronic empathy where he can't stop being a hero to refuse to feel the helplessness like he did when he was five by being a hero. This has often become the main course of a problem for him.

• Gadgeteer Genius - Owen invented what he would call them as his "Bug Pills" that grants him the proportionate strength, powers and abilities of an insect for an hour at a time. An invention that can change and revolutionize humanity with his formula, this is stated also that he can merely create super pills to can grant any random superpowers limit to science (if not meta-science) for more than an hour if not permanent by a simple swallow. Because of his discovery and formula, he's often extremely protective of his invention and won't share his pills.

• Beware The Nice Ones - Owen is an average guy who's a gifted genius at the end, dealing with regular problems and crack jokes when he fights crime, but when push comes to shove or in situations that involves endangering his loved ones or threaten to murder those he cares. Owen becomes pissed off and if he takes Allegheny Mound Ant pill, that's game over as he can lift five hundred tons and do insane levels of feat and become a powerhouse for an hour at least.

• Spider-Man Send Up - The character is heavily inspired/homage after Marvel Comic's Spider-Man, specifically the silver age version of him from the 1960s/70s and Sam Raimi's movie of the character, basically the old school. The inspiration comes from conceptual descriptions such as the whole "regular nerd who deals with everyday struggles is an arthropod-themed superhero who cracks jokes" concept. There are key differences between the two characters but share similarities as it's been the inspiration to Owen's creation.
