Background

The Plot

Therra Arcson had been an annoyance, a thorn in the side of the Circle and other groups since she got her powers. Some direct strikes at her were thwarted by her ability, her friends, and her link to her patron - the one only referred to as the Lady. Multiple groups had failed to kill her or otherwise take her out of the picture.

When she was trapped in a collapse of a Council supply tunnel, though, an opportunity opened up. The mages of the Circle decided not to kill her - oh, no. They'd do worse. They'd destroy her relationships and reputation with her family, friends and the city.

Infiltrating the destroyed Council tunnel, they found plenty of samples which could be used in a powerful ritual - hair and blood, especially. They brought these back with them, weaving them alongside magics into a new body they crafted. This sort of body wouldn't work for them - aside from the raw materials needed, it couldn't house an Orenbangan spirit properly - but that wasn't what they had in mind.

Glitch

They wove more into their creation than just looks, though. They gave her determination and resilience. They gave her a burning hatred of her "original," even triggering pain on seeing Therra - and the surety that she had to cause as much in return as she could. And they gave her several measures of cunning. She would be their great tool of revenge, a knife pointed where they willed, causing destruction where needed, a thousand small cuts to prolong where desired.

There came a time, though, where they had to bring her abilities - and here Therra's patron, the Lady, stepped in, blocking and interfering with any ability to give this duplicate similar powers. Never would she allow this creature to direct lightning. The mages met - and decided this wasn't a problem. The heroic Therra Arcson using obviously infernal powers would only serve their purpose of destroying her reputation further, they convinced themselves. And so darkness and fire were driven into her core to be called upon at need. They knew the Council held Therra - any change in attitude or powers would be perfectly understandable after her treatment at *their* hands.

Their preparations - and their vessel - finished, they took the body they'd finished to a special room. An altar had been set up, crystals and markings carved, ready to accept and direct power. They secured the one they'd named Malevola to the frame and prepared their ritual, calling dark powers and darker spirits to animate the body.
