Madame Marvelous
By day, she's Sarah Tennison, a.k.a. Nora Phoenix, stage magician and illusionist extraordinaire. By night, she is Madame Marvelous, mistress of the arcane. But her actual story goes far, far deeper than that.
Biography
Public Bio
Sarah Tennison is the adopted daughter of noted stage magician Alfred Tennison and his wife and longtime stage partner Valerie. An orphan pulled out of obscurity, she has taken to the family business with gusto, assisting with her father for several years before striking out on her own, performing under the name Nora Phoenix. She has also taken another, less public aspect of the family business: Alfred, himself an advisor for MAGI, has trained her in the arts and helped her get her own start to superheroics as Madame Marvelous.
The Real Story
Issarielle Vaylia is from a race of elves who have lived alongside humans, unseen, for millenia. For much of human history she has quietly kept to herself, but the age of superheroes has prompted her out of her solitude in defense of both humanity and the world. By the Second World War she had adopted a persona of her own, Lady Phantasma, and provided magical assistance and consultation to the allied forces. By the Rikti invasion she had adopted a new persona, Mystica Suprema, in order to evade suspicion about her own magical, long lived nature.
Publicly, Mystica Suprema did not survive the Rikti war. Issarielle, herself, only barely survived it, and soon found herself drawing back into isolation while dealing of the traumas of such a close call with disaster.
That started to change upon meeting Alfred Tennison. While publicly a stage magician, Tennison moonlighted as a [MAGI] investigator and had been sent to investigate the reclusive elf. He quickly took pity on Issarielle, helping her heal from old wounds of the war, both physical and mental. He and his wife would invite her to with them soon after, presenting her to the world as Sarah, their adopted daughter who had been kept out of the public eye.
As she slowly recovered from the traumas of war she gradually began to take to public life again. She would learn Alfred's craft from him, finding herself talented enough to run her own show under the name Nora Phoenix, and has even resumed her superheroics under the hero name Madame Marvelous.
