Callista Claire Desmarais (/kalista klɛʁ demaʁɛ/), also known as In Caligine (/in kaliʒine/), is a retired hero and investigative journalist writing for the Rhode Island Independent Journal. A native of Montréal, she moved to Paragon City in 2008 with her twin sister Lux (/lyks/).
Calli was an underground MMA brawler, known for her defensive fighting techniques, which earned her the moniker Turtle Cal. She is also a two-time amateur racinng champion. In her professional life, Calli is an award-winning investigative journalist who covers malfeasance and corruption in both the public and private sectors.
Power description
The science of Calli's powers is not well-understood, because they involve black holes and fuzzballs, concepts at the frontier of theoretical physics.
By laying down regions of pinched spacetime around herself, Calli is able to use them to manipulate energy in a localized area. She can insulate herself from extreme temperatures and deflect trajectories of moving masses. High energy EM radiation has been known to overload her. The reasons for this are not entirely clear. Calli is seemingly immune to psychic probing -- psychics report that there is only a void where her mind ought to be. It may be more accurate to say that there is an event horizon surrounding her mind, so to speak, from which psychic energy may enter (and become spaghettified) but may never escape. Disembodied psychic emanations are able to escape in a manner analogous to Hawking radiation. These tattered reflections of Calli's dark psyche are deeply unnerving when wielded as a weapon. Calli herself perceives them to be actual images that she paints with darkness.
Calli is able to rapidly heal from damage and injuries that would prove lethal to most by absorbing energy from around her. Thanks to E=MC^2, this parasitic form of regeneration causes negligible harm to pretty much anything larger than a tadpole.
The extent of Calli's ability to regenerate is unverified.
