Aurora Star is the entity formed upon the merging of Claire O'Carrol, a fashionista and aspiring model, with "Aurora," a notably old Kheldian who has been hosted by several heroes throughout history. Claire received the Kheldian from her predecessor, Aurora Flare, who had been so critically wounded even the considerable healing powers of a Peacebringer could not save him. Claire, who happened to be shopping when the skies above her erupted in superpowered battle, agreed to be a temporary host to Aurora until a more permanent host could be found. However, as the battle raged on both Claire and Aurora found common cause in their desire to help, and once each realized they had a kindred spirit in the other, their minds joined, instantly creating a new superhero.

Aurora Star has always assured interviewers that she retains Claire's personality and memories, brushing aside any concerns for her "human" side with a single line: "I wouldn't change a thing."

Biography

Pre-Joining

Human Biography

Claire O'Carrol was born and raised on a farm in northern Pennsylvania. She relished her country life as a child, but as she entered her teens she began to chafe at it. She began doing modeling jobs in late high school, and by adulthood had moved to Philadelpha, hoping to save up enough to accomplish her dream of moving to New York. However, friends in the industry tipped her to work needed by the relatively obscure, superhero-oriented fashion company Icon, which would lead to her moving to Paragon City barely a year before the incident that would lead to her becoming a superhero herself.

Kheldian Biography

Aurora is a notably old Kheldian, even by joined Kheldian standards. Their joined human memory stretches back nearly a thousand years, non-human hosts go back even farther, and stasis periods of interstellar travel are likely several orders of magnitude more than that. They've been joined to many superheroes over the years, including the World War 2 superhero Silver Star, Aurora Glow, who died during the Kheldian invasion, and Aurora Star's own predecessor, Aurora Flare. Aurora (and their hosts') penchant for superheroics tend to cost them bodies, but Aurora treasures each of their hosts deeply.

Inciting Incident

It was an otherwise normal shopping day for Claire. At her final stop at a ritzy downtown boutique, in the district known to the locals as the "Steel Canyon," a superpowered fight erupted in the skies above her. Just another day of the week for the citizens of Paragon City - Claire hadn't even reached for her phone yet - until the street outside erupted in screams and a loud explosion shook the building moments before rubble fell through the ceiling above her. Claire was, fortunately, unharmed, and the building seemed unlikely to collapse - you don't get a building permit in Paragon City without being able to withstand a few superheroic impacts - but the shop around her was rubble. As the dust settled, Claire spotted the source of the impact, the mangled, barely recognizeable body of the superhero Aurora Flare, and as unlikely as it seemed, he was still moving, and was reaching out toward Claire for help! Claire scrambled toward him, intent on helping as much as she can.

Aurora Flare's voice shakily spoke as soon as she got close. He was asking for help, but not for himself. Inside him, the source of his powers, was a [Kheldian]. His injuries were too extensive for the Kheldian to heal, and it was unlikely to survive without a host. He begged Claire to host the being, temporarily, until a more suitable host could be found. Claire agreed, and as she reached out toward the superhero, she felt a wave of energy wash over her. The hero in front of her slumped, expiring before her eyes.

Claire turned toward the battle still raging outside the ruins of the boutique. Distant explosions shook the foundations, and she made her way out to look. As she did so, she felt a presence at the corner of her consciousness. It could only be the Kheldian, Claire thought, and it seemed as curious about the situation as Claire was, but was hesitant to join itself too closely to Claire's senses. None the less Claire eagerly allowed it to see what she was seeing.

Outside was chaos. Rubble fell from surrounding buildings as civilians screamed and dove for cover. Shadowy figures ran through the streets, engaging with police forces who had responded to the situation. The Kheldian recognized the figures - they'd ambushed Aurora Flare! Those not fighting the PPD seemed to be targeting civilians, searching for something. Or someone.

It wasn't the first time Claire had witnessed a superheroic fight and felt the desire to help, but as her mind touched the Kheldian's she realized she had a kindred spirit inside her, one that could help both her and every person suffering. With that power at her disposal she couldn't, she wouldn't, sit idly by, and in an instant, willingly joined her mind with the Kheldian's.

Aurora Star was born.
