History

The Rocket Man

John Powers Sr. is a former astronaut and U.S. Senator who gained the powers of flight, enhanced strength and energy manipulation in 1975 from being joined with a Kheldian he encountered during his last lunar mission - their combined name was Paleflyer. Still, the media dubbed the new hero "Rocket Man," which amused Paleflyer so much that he let it stand. He fashioned himself a costume, and as "Rocket Man," he fought for law and order in the streets of Paragon City for over a decade.

He was first elected to Congress in 1987 and became Senator for Rhode Island in 1997. He married Nicole Johnson in 1999, and they had a son, John Jr., in 2001.

Passign on the torch

John Jr.'s childhood was pretty uneventful until he turned 16. He developed a severe case of leukemia and would have died had his father

With his human host's son dying, Paleflyer decided to separate from him, and John Jr. became the new host of the Kheldian entity, curing him.

Of course, since this was the son of the original Rocket Man, the media started to call this new Paleflyer "Rocket Man Jr.". This still amused Paleflyer...

Personality

John Jr. is an above-average grad student whose interests lie more in academia than sports. He was the captain of his school's debate team and editor-in-chief of his school's newspaper.

Despite his upper-class upbringing, John Jr. is level-headed and humble. He knows that he is woefully untrained in the use of his powers and welcomes any opportunity to learn about them.
