He could still make out the vague figures of his colleagues behind him, phasing in nigh-transparent ripples, when he noticed the vivid figure of a beautiful, inhuman woman of Djinnestan walk through them, and toward him. With skin like the sunset and hair like silk, Djabir couldn't come to recognize exactly what kind of Djinni she was. She radiated an aura not of an Ifrit, not of a Marid, but of both simultaneously. "You don't belong here." Djabir watched her in silence through the tears that built within his eyes, and could only show her the necklace. She touched her bare neck in an echoed memory of losing it, changing her demeanor when her other hand reached for the necklace. Their fingers made contact with a touch real as anything else, and an unexplained feeling washed over them. "Djabir Haddad." Djabir managed to regain his logical side after empathizing with how the prophet Muhammad must've felt on this plane, and walked back into his own plane of existence through the portal before any complications could threaten to trap him there; promising to return. Through the formalities of the experiment and debriefed findings in the following weeks, he continued to hear the name she gave him in return, Vela Al-Najafi, constantly echoing within his dreams. He kept his promise and visited her many times over a span of a couple months, explaining everything, and coming to terms with what was being achieved. They fell in love. Vela's family threatened to completely disown her and banish her from their Djinnestan home. Djabir faced mounting threats of his own, and the new notion going around of completely exposing their operations, publicizing a technology that still needed to be streamlined, terrified him. In their quest to deal with the backlash, their beautiful son, at last, came into the world at the private home Djabir shared with Vela on the very special date of January 1st 2000, 12:00am. Baring that same sunset skin and silky, powder blue hair, he was named Ramsey after Vela's own father in their attempt to appeal to him.

Vela's tribute to her father failed to distract him from his, and the rest of the family's, overall prejudice against her relationship with a human. Over the following months of extremely turbulent times for both of Ramsey's parents personally and professionally, the final nail in the coffin of their relationship came in the form of Vela's family members using the C.D.D.C. portal to cause extensive damage to the laboratory. Sponsorships and investors pulled out, and when pressured to sell his share of the entire operation to his founding partner, Djabir had no choice but to cut his losses to avoid legal action and total government interference. With a heavy heart, Vela chose to stay with her family in Djinnestan instead of spending a life with Djabir and her now one-year-old-son, in order to ensure her family never threaten them again. Djabir became completely heartbroken, and decided to leave the country for good with the fortune he had left. Pulling his old Canadian connections, he acquired temporary resident visas for himself and Ramsey to stay in the country. Ramsey's physical oddities were impossible to hide, and Djabir's full transparency made them eligible to be placed in a designated neighbourhood for special individuals via the Montreal Exceptional Services.
Per Djabir's request and legal right under the M.E.S., he opted to hide Ramsey's true origin from him until he became a legal adult. Four years after their arrival they became full Canadian citizens, and Ramsey was able to start his educational journey from kindergarten. Ramsey came off as somewhat shy, and sans one or two very specific friends, preferred to play by himself...

The first impression that Ramsey tends to give strangers, in the professional sense, is that of someone who has the triple C: calm, cool, collected; someone who can carry himself normally. The first impression that Ramsey tends to give strangers in social situations is that of minor social awkwardness, though he quickly warms up after sussing out their intentions. A great ice-breaker for him is when he senses it's someone' birthday, giving him an easy social in. Overall, he radiates an approachable presence with his content smile and soft cadence of speech. He's less likely to initiate conversations himself, and more likely to carry them on once they start, though he has been known to initiate easily enough with familiar faces (though he does enjoy some innocent eavesdropping). He's been described as friendly, well-mannered, kind, conscientious, sensitive, imaginative, whimsical, open-minded, curious and creative, can become distracted, let things go over his head or endearingly quote things from various media. He commonly blushes and becomes embarrassed when involved in conversations that are controversial or risque in nature, but that quality has no baring on his own ability to indulge. | The first impression that Ramsey tends to give strangers, in the professional sense, is that of someone who has the triple C: calm, cool, collected; someone who can carry himself normally. He attempts to give everyone a fair chance to explain themselves, and doesn't rush into instant opinions (he wants to know WHY a criminal is doing what they're doing, and not just shout 'villain!' before starting a fight). Ramsey has to consciously force himself to make direct eye contact with people for prolonged periods of time (though the hack of looking at the bridge of a nose instead is a great illusion), and though his usual temperament is level-headed, there are instances where his hypersensitivity gets the best of him and renders his emotional expression very prominent. This is evident by his ability to remain collected in when blasting his magical rifle and dealing with demons, yet still vulnerable to folding under perceived intense emotional duress (when someone is directing anger at him through shouting, for example). Admittedly, this can be jarring to those witnessing him in this state for the first time. His mood is, at the very least, moderately influenced by those around him. Ramsey's time with the C.S.R.F. elevated his self-esteem and toughened his skin a little more, especially after the revelation of who and what he is shocked his core. Though, he still suffers moments of self doubt, and even instances when he's suspicious of his own powers. Regardless, the older he becomes, little by little, the more he recognizes his self worth beyond the countless labels he struts around with. | He attempts to give everyone a fair chance to explain themselves, and doesn't rush into instant opinions (he wants to know WHY a criminal is doing what they're doing, and not just shout 'villain!' before starting a fight). This has, in turn, dictated the nature of his limited wish granting magic. He has the ability to fulfill the single wish of another, but only on their perceived day of birth. The context and focal point of this aspect of djinn magic relies heavily on the perception of the wish-taker, and Ramsey's own focus (if it's not their birthday, nothing will happen). Though the magnitude of his wish granting abilities will never reach that of a true Marid (as demonstrated by his inability to match the power of a "Three wishes at any given time" pop culture Djinni), it nonetheless allows him conditional access to: reality warping, summoning, destruction, nigh-omnipotence and bestowal abilities. However, this wish granting aspect of his Djinn magic can be volatile and unpredictable beyond his control, especially when wishes lack specific instructions. There are also esoteric rules and limitations of Djinn magic that prevent him from affecting the more delicate aspects reality and existence. | https://archive.paragonwiki.com/w/images//c/c6/Illusions_PhantomArmy.png '''Wish Granting''' - Ramsey's wish granting abilities didn't manifest until the trauma of his father's death ingrained a psychological link to birthdays. Origin
Dad Dreamed of Genie
As a young boy born into a family who struggled to get by through their agricultural roots, Djabir Soltani Haddad's life completely changed forever once he befriended a Djinni he summoned from his grandmother's antique lamp - the only item she owned with any worth after passing away. He was already a shrewd and intelligent boy who, instead of wasting the two wishes afforded to him on frivolous things right away, decided to take a few days to really think about what he wanted. Djabir decided to dedicate one wish to benefit his present, and one wish to benefit his future. For his first wish, Djabir blessed one of the family's few struggling fig trees to bare the most robust and delicious figs possible. His intention was to set their family up for a steady increase in wealth overtime, instead of outright wishing for money. For his second wish, he wanted to make sure his first child would be special, and he'd treat him better than Djabir's own father treated him. The Djinni had no reason or desire to twist the boy's wishes through shades of trickery, as he was deemed a kind soul. Both wishes were granted, and the fruits of the seeds planted from his first improved the life of his family within a matter of months. The family business became locally known for their amazing figs. Then, nationally known. Then, known across Africa and Asia. The fruit of Djabir's second wish didn't come until much, much later. With the newly found wealth that saved the family and elevated them to new heights, Djabir has the means to do what he always wanted to do - find a way to establish contact with the realm of the Djinn, and specifically Djinnestan, without the usual barriers of existing planes.
His ambitions were kept as vague as "scientist" when his parents asked him about his trajectory in life, and had no idea what he was actually doing when he traveled abroad to study. At Montreal's Vellion University, specializing in metaphysical and supernatural sciences, he spent several years with a vigorous work ethic and sacrificed his personal life for his education. By the time he was 28, Djabir earned a Doctorate in Metaphysics and Masters in Technomantic Sciences, returning to Algeria to co-establish its first official metaphysical and supernatural laboratory. Over the course of the next decade, Djabir and his equally intelligent and ambitious team initiated countless experiments, collaborating with professionals across various other fields in order to develop a technology that could successfully open a gateway specifically between the physical world as they knew it, and the overlapping plane of the Djinn. Throughout history, Djinni of all kinds crossed into the world of humans under variable circumstances and limitations, and he intended to eliminate most of those circumstances and limitations. Eventually, a breakthrough allowed for the first prototype, of what would become known as the C.D.D.C., to be developed and perfected. Through the suggestion of his colleagues, Professor Haddad took periodic breaks from the project to teach at a newly established University in Algiers, in order to avoid the pitfalls of obsession. However, his work ethic long caused a rift between himself and the rest of his family; opting out of attending weddings, birthdays and funerals alike to continue his work.
Mom Followed her Heart
At last, as he pushed into his early 40s, Professor Djabir Haddad finally realized his dream in which he set out to make a reality ever since he was a child. However, the first attempt to use the C.D.D.C. in a controlled environment nearly stopped the experiment dead in its tracks. Unable to directly control the exact location from which the portal into the Djinni realm opened, it allowed a Ghul Djinni to slip through when a graveyard became the focal point. The Ghul created havoc through both their confusion and nature, before they were sent back. Adjustments were made as Djabir was impossible to deter, and several more trials followed with much better results. The first test outside of the laboratory was the exact moment the stars aligned for Djabir. Throughout the years of hard work and dedication, he forgot about the second wish he made as that child so long ago, and it was going to be realized. Accidentally stealing a bronze necklace from the Djinn realm during the beginning of the trial, Djabir immediately used it as an excuse to walk through the portal, and enter the very place he dreamed about. The journey came with great risks and variables beyond their control, and so he volunteered himself to spare his colleagues the danger. He ignored the risks, but was greatly rewarded, for upon stepping into the plane of the Djinn for the very first time, his life changed.
Vela first crossed into his realm of existence through the C.D.D.C. method - just to declare her love for Djabir Haddad in front of his colleagues.
In turn, Djabir was eventually introduced to Vela's brother Akeem, but was met with immediate disapproval and hostility. Akeem refused to give his blessing, warning her of the implications of such a paring. Vela ignored the reaction of her family in the same manner that Djabir ignored the few colleagues that attempted to convince him of similar dangers. A point of time came, sooner rather than later, where It was too late to untangle their weaved fates even if they wanted to; Vela was baring Djabir's child. The news was not welcoming for Djabir's partners and co-establishers of their laboratory, and it was even worse for Vela's family. For months they fought for their love and tried to convince those around them, but eventually, the strain tortured their relationship.
Son Bared the Burden
(WIP!)
Timeline
- (March 2023) Ramsey re-emerges across the border in Paragon City after an unexplained year of lost contact with friends and associates. Finds a small apartment in Atlas Park.
- (April 2023) Contact with the C.S.R.F. is re-established, where he is officially classified as a reserve member. After all, he's kept the costume and technology specialized to suit his own needs.
- (May 2023) Officially gets the green light to operate as a 'hero'. Though, he immediately decides to spend a slight majority of his heroing in the Rogue Isles where he feels he's more needed... despite the increased danger and anxiety.
- (June 2023) Gets in touch with his Montreal-based therapist again, who in turn helps him connect to a local psychiatrist to orchestrate and resume his treatment program.
- (December 2023) For unknown reasons to his acquaintances, disappears from the Paragon scene early in the month.
- (March 2024) Returns to Paragon City, revealing only that he needed to deal with a situation that began after a very horrible social encounter in Pocket D at the end of the previous year. Remains relatively anti-social and to his own place.
- (May 2024) Fully returns to the public sphere, becoming more social and making appearances in Pocket D once again.
Personality Profile
His sexuality can be defined as demi-homosexual.

Capabilities
Powers
Djinn Attributes - Ramsey's racial attributes are not only on the rare side due to being a half-Djinni, but specifically being the offspring of his Marid/Ifrit bi-racial mother. Ramsey's powers and capabilities access some attributes of both Marids and Ifrits, but neither completely. His body is capable of both resisting the cold temperatures of the deep ocean, as well as the hot temperatures of infernal landscapes. While not possessing the potential lifespan of a full Djinni, Ramsey's physical aging will slow once his body has reached maturity, at roughly a rate twice as slow as a normal human male. Other racial attributes also grants him the ability to become intangible, invisible, levitate for finite periods of time and to a much lesser degree than a full Djinni, possess others.
Djinn Magic - The Djinn magic he uses manifests as what has been described as "golden fire", though contact with this flame doesn't inherently burn. Teleportation, restoration, protection, shape-shifting/polymorphing, strengthening and weakening spells are all within possibility. While he can't directly transfer himself into Djinnestan fully, he is still able to access pocket portions of the Djinni plane.
Wish Granting - Ramsey's wish granting abilities didn't manifest until the trauma of his father's death ingrained a psychological link to birthdays.
Birthday Perception - The specific condition of his wish granting has caused him to develop what he calls a self explanatory "birthday sense". As a side-effect, this allows him to also determine the age of others who are capable of perceiving the concept of a birthday.
Abilities & Skills
Marksmanship - Ramsey is a reliable and formidable marksman and sharpshooter, having four years of C.S.R.F. training under his belt.
Unarmed Combat - While not considering himself a martial artist, Ramsey has basic training in unarmed combat courtesy of the C.S.R.F. His primary focus was that of Judo: submission, immobilization, locking and throwing techniques to prevent, control or escape unfavourable melee situations.
Fitness - Since his time with the C.S.R.F., Ramsey has kept in great physical condition through cardio and calisthenics, and practices healthy eating habits.
Modern Knowledge - His time in the C.S.R.F. has not only kept him up-to-date with technology, but supernatural-oriented occurrences as well. He possesses decent hacking/computing skill much as he can identify magical/supernatural phenomena.
Multilinguist - Ramsey is fluent in English and Quebec-French, and mostly fluent in Algerian-Arabic.
Weapons & Equipment
The Candle - A nickname given to his weapon, the energy rifle he owns utilizes the latest in technomancy/magitech. It is specifically designed to absorb and store his djinn magic, converting it into offensive beams of energy at the pull of a trigger. While not in use, the Candle is kept within a small pocket in Djinnestan, and can be summoned at will. It was created for him during his time served in the C.S.R.F., offsetting his inability to project his own magic raw and offensively.
Birthday Suit - His colourful costume possesses bulletproof qualities, while also being surprisingly breathable and machine washable. Some swear that it must have a magical quality to it.
Commlink System Compatibility - Equipped with miscellaneous communications technology for a variety of situational sources, temporarily or long-term.
Talents & Pastimes
Creative Writing - Ramsey literally has journals filled with story ideas, planning and rambling and poetry, extending to the fifty separate wordpads on his desktop, and notes on his phone - Blocks and blocks; lists and lists of text. He finds plenty of inspiration from his dreams, and enjoys the process of mingling in pieces of real-life events whether his own or from the tales of others. He also creates illustrations for some of his stories in paint programs.
Reading - Ramsey does almost much reading as he does writing, and some of that reading includes his own stories. He is a fast reader, and can retain a lot of information from this form of communication in particular.
Weaknesses/Vulnerabilities
Offensive Limitations - For unexplained reasons, Ramsey greatly struggles with utilizing his Djinn Magic offensively in the forms of raw magical blasts, conjured weapons and other offensive means. He compensates by using the Candle, or making use of other objects. ^
Superior Magic - Though his Djinn magic is powerful, there are still other magic users who are capable of overcoming it.
Compelling - Unfortunately, Ramsey has inherited the potential to be compelled by those with superior magic/capability of doing so. The state of being "compelled" drives an urge to do what is commanded of him. Fortunately, this is only half as powerful compared to a pure djinni, allowing him to fight off commands that are completely against his nature.
Mental Resistance - Though many factors have afforded him with a respectable willpower that can fend off weaker psychics, outside of any particular magic, he has no superhuman form of "psionic resistance".
Own Worst Enemy - Despite the extraordinary potential of his powers, even as a half-Djinni, Ramsey still struggles with self confidence, and is even scared of some aspects of his abilities. This prevents him from truly seeking his full potential.
