Casey McKnight
Casey stands at about 75 inches (6'3") and just under 225 pounds. His skin is light, his hair is dark brown, and his eyes are blue due to his partial Irish heritage. He has a strong build. Part of his daily routine is a workout session and, along with his hero work, that keeps him in good shape, though having children has made it more difficult to maintain his routine. His skin is unmarred by scars or tattoos, due mainly to his regeneration which makes him look younger than he actually is.
The man is very family-oriented, not just with his own biological family, but with people he is close to. You do not have to be directly related to him by blood or by marriage for him to consider you part of his family. He is very protective - protective of himself and his family. This manifests itself in a variety of ways. First and foremost, he will go to any lengths to help or to save the people he cares about; there is no sacrifice too great for the ones he loves. Second, he remains a very private and quiet person, for the most part. He doesn't often allow people he doesn't know see his face. If he doesn't know you well, it's difficult to get him to open up. This makes him come across as cold or uncaring sometimes, but make no mistake, underneath all of that, he does care. Among friends, though, he isn't afraid to let you know how he feels, and a lot of times, it can rub people the wrong way. He can be blunt and stubborn, but he's been around long enough to understand when to put those aside for a more measured approach. In general, he believes, in order to be a good friend, honesty is the best policy, even if it may be hard to hear the truth.
He possesses control over nanites in his body that are created by a device implanted in his spine. His nanites give him various abilities, enhancing his attacks, allowing him regeneration, increasing his speed, and his strength.
Before Paragon City
Casey Sean McKnight was born on September 12th, 1984 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Catholic parents, Bryant and Cathleen. He was the oldest of two boys. From an early age, his father, a former alumnus at the University of Michigan, as well as a positions coach for a brief time, sat down and watched Wolverine football every Saturday that it was on. He started playing at a young age, from organized school teams, to pick-up games at the park.
Over the years, his skill grew, and he worked hard. He was a four-year starter in high school at safety. In 2002, all his work on the field paid off. After a his school made a deep playoff run that sadly ended in defeat, he was set to go to college. His whole life, all he ever wanted was to go to Michigan. Casey was recruited by many colleges, most of them in the Michigan area. Even the hated Buckeyes of Ohio State made him an offer. In the end, the choice was easy; he decided to go to the University of Michigan, even if he wasn't going to start right away. He would work hard, as he had at everything in his life, and earn his way onto the field.
Everything was set for him to move to Ann Arbor.
Paragon City
Origins
Shortly after Casey moved to be at the University of Michigan, Bryant accepted a job offer he'd received from Crey Industries in Paragon City. The job paid well, but it forced the family to move there. Both of his parents and his brother, James, moved to Paragon City, while Casey stayed in Ann Arbor.
It was during the football preseason that he received a call from his distraught mother that his father had gone missing. One morning, he left for work, but according to Crey, he never showed up that day.
He had a difficult decision ahead of him. Either he would continue to pursue his dream as a football player, or he would forgo all he'd worked hard for to search for his father. Family was more important to him than football; he chose the latter. Giving up his budding life in Ann Arbor, he relocated to Paragon City. It didn't take long for him to get the answers he was looking for, though they were not the answers he was looking for, and he didn't get them in the way he hoped.
Late one night, he broke into Crey, hoping to find some trace of his father. It was the best lead he had, and he didn't exactly trust them. This venture failed, due mainly to a lack of experience and preparation, and he went home empty-handed.
While seeking out information on Crey at a local library, he was approached by a small blonde woman who struck up a conversation with him. When he went to the bathroom, he was drugged by an unseen assailant and kidnapped. Waking up some time later, he saw the same woman staring down at him, along with an older man, bald, with a beard.
They told him they knew of his efforts to break into Crey, and why he was there. They told him that his father had been experimented on, but that he didn't survive. Now, it was his turn. There's very little he remembers of the experiments themselves, but by the end, he had a device implanted in his spine that generated nanites and pumped them into his bloodstream, allowing him control over them. But someone else had control too. He tried to fight it, but he had no choice but to do what they wanted him to do.
Then, something happened. It wasn't until later in life that he learned what, but he was suddenly free escaping into the world again.
He told his mother what had happened to both his father and himself and, even though they didn't have a body, they held a private service for his father.
Through working with Crey, he learned of his powers and his limits. After leaving, he created the identity Shadeweb because his nanites tended to look like a darkness that grabbed onto you like a spider's web. Shadeweb was an outlet for Casey to let out his anger and rage on the criminals of the city. His philosophy had always been to never harm the innocent, but he had no quarrels with killing those that he felt deserved it. Every criminal, in his eyes, deserved it. They had made their choice and it was too late for them to go back.
