HISTORY
The Honourable Cedric Derwent was born to Lord and Lady Cavenham in England and raised at the ancestral family estate in Hambleston, Gloucestershire. As a child, Cedric was close to his twin sister Katherine and older brother Oliver even if it was well known that the eldest would inherit the titles, estate, and bulk of the family fortune save for any trusts or bequeaths in his name.
Bookish and meek, young Cedric didn’t excel at sports or have many friends. What he lacked in physical prowess (and appearance) he made up for with a curious mind and a sharp intellect. His brain awarded him top prizes in school and many scholarships followed.
First educated at Eton College, he went on to obtain a MSt in Medieval Studies and a DPhil in Archaeology from The Queen's College, Oxford University, specializing in early medieval Britain. While out on a dig, he unearthed a medieval medallion with heavy patina. As he carefully cleaned the delicate surface, the image revealed itself to be that of Nimue: the Lady of the Lake. No sooner had he realized this that the artefact began to glow, suffusing him with a cool and tranquil energy.
Naked in a void of bright light, he found himself face to face with Nimue herself, who greeted him as one of her champions. She invited him to look at himself and to his astonishment he noticed that had been transformed into a paragon of manhood: tall, strong, and broad, his face handsome and endowed with confidence.
His pure soul and noble heart had been deemed worthy by the Lady of the Lake to become one of her avatars for good in this realm and she unlocked his potential as an Incarnate. The ancient amulet merged with his being, flooding him with energy from the Well of the Furies.
Thus transformed into a colossal paragon of manhood, he found that he had also been granted superhuman powers. A sworn defender of Great Britain and beyond, Proudheart is oath-bound to right wrongs and protect the innocent.
BASE OF OPERATIONS
Hexton Hall
Located in Hambleston, Gloucestershire, Hexton Hall was a royal manor in the days of the Saxon kings. The manor remained a royal residence until the reign of Elizabeth I when it was gifted to the first Earl of Cavenham.
In the late 1700s, Lancelot 'Capability' Brown was commissioned by the Derwent family to redesign and enlarge the house and landscape the park. Brown set the style of the present-day building by retaining the Elizabethan stables, the Riding School, and the great gabled front to the house, which he doubled in depth. He also provided gabled wings at either end of the house, creating the Picture Gallery and State Rooms in the east and a library and new kitchens in the west. The Picture Gallery was designed as a triple cube and has a coffered plasterwork ceiling over a high cove stuccoed in scrolls. The Long Gallery contains Italian Old Masters, with a notable marquetry commode, matching candlestands, and four pier glasses.
Brown also worked as a landscape architect and separated the park from the pleasure grounds using a ha-ha (sunken fence) so that the view from the house would not be obstructed. Brown enlarged the fish ponds to create a lake and constructed an orangery and a Gothic Bath House. He created a "Great Walk" stretching for a mile through clumps of trees. An ornamental arch was built so that the family and their guests could walk underneath the public right of way without having to cross it. Brown also planted screens of trees around the park to obscure roads and fields beyond, making the view more arcadian.
After Brown’s death, John Nash was commissioned to completely remodel the north façade in Strawberry Hill Gothic style, further embellishing other areas of Brown's external building works, including the Bath House in the North Avenue and a folly ruin incorporating some medieval stonework.
Elysian Island
Elysian Island is the headquarters of the Justice Squadron, located a thousand miles away from Paragon City in the Atlantic Ocean. The island was formerly home to the Valkyron, a race of powerful warrior women who were created by the Pantheon to defend Earth. The abandoned island was found by Icon after her battles with Heraclea, a rogue amazon who was responsible for murdering all of her fellow sisters. Since then, Elysian Island has been rebuilt to serve as the Justice Squadron's base of operations in their mission to protect the planet.
The island is monitored and shielded by the spirit of Odessa.
POWERS AND ABILITIES
Enhanced Physique: Nimue's blessing permanently endowed Proudheart with increased height, musculature, and good looks.
Superhuman Strength: Proudheart's strength is increased to high superhuman levels. At his peak, he's able to lift approximately 100 tons.
Superhuman Stamina: Proudheart's advanced musculature produces considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of a normal human. At his peak, he can exert himself physically for about 24 hours before the build-up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him.
Superhuman Durability: Proudheart is highly resistant to physical injury. He is able to sustain powerful energy blasts, great impact forces such as bazooka shells or being repeatedly struck by superhumanly strong opponents, temperature extremes, and falls from great heights without being injured. However, repeated impacts from sufficiently powerful forces or weaponry will weaken and, eventually, defeat him.
Superhuman Agility: Proudheart's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.
Superhuman Reflexes: Proudheart's reflexes are similarly enhanced and are superior to those of the finest human athlete.
Superhuman Senses: The mystical energy permeating Proudheart increases the efficiency of his senses, enhancing them to superhuman levels. He can see objects with perfect clarity at much greater distances than a normal human can. His hearing is similarly enhanced, allowing him to hear further than a human and to detect sounds normal humans can't.
Flight: Proudheart can also channel this mystical energy for the purpose of flying through the air at great speeds. At his peak, he is capable of surpassing the Speed of Sound, 770 miles per hour. His superhuman durability enables him to withstand the rigors of traveling at such high velocities would have on human tissue without harm, as well as allowing him to breathe normally.
Regenerative Healing: Proudheart can purposely channel this mystical energy to repair damaged bodily tissues much faster and more extensively than a human being is capable of. His healing powers also dramatically decrease the rate of his aging to an unknown degree.
Thermal Optical Beams: Proudheart is capable of firing beams of highly intense heat from his eyes.
