Posidonius

Description

Posidonius is an underwater city-state located underneath the North Atlantic waves.

The city is ruled by a Council of Elders, assisted by Seers who hoard knowledge. Some of it is dispensed by its "Royal College of Magic", but only as much is needed for the city's administration and the ranks of the city's army.

Its inhabitants, Posidonians, are, as a race, violently xenophobic. They fear and hate anything that is not from Posidonius. The only Posidonians known to be outside the confines of the city are Scouts/War Parties on very specific (and usually short-term) missions and Exiles (mostly females - Posidonian society is heavily patriarchal).

They are omnivorous, i.e., they can eat meat or plants (or even coral when the times are hard).

They are amphibious but tend to stay underwater due to their xenophobic tendencies.

Posidonians worship the Moon ("Mother Moon") as their chief deity.

Posidonian culture is big on titles: Lady/Lord, Sir, Dame, etc.

Exile from Posidonius

A genetic mutation amongst the Posidonians is called "The Voice". It is viewed as a great "Gift" if you're male but a terrible "Curse" if you're female. It is the only meta-ability known to the Posidonians.

Females with the Voice are routinely exiled. They are not killed outright because even if it is a "Curse," it is still considered God-given.

Males with the Voice are enrolled in the army when their power manifests.

One recent development is that the number of Males manifesting the Voice has dramatically diminished in the past [calc] 3 years... which more or less coincides with Mo'nique of Posidonius' exile. Is this a coincidence?

Posidonians with "The Voice" are considered by some to be the basis for the myth of the Sirens.

In City of Heroes terms:
A character with "The Voice" would typically be a Sonic/Sonic Blaster or Defender. Other combinations are possible, as long as they are in some fashion Sound-based. Otherwise, most Posidonian warriors are Brutes, Scrappers, Stalkers, or Tankers with a mix of Invulnerability, Staff, Street Justice, Super Reflexes, and Willpower.
