From the concept of the Grim Reaper, the term "reaper" has been used in many stories, films, and TV shows to describe characters that deal in some way with the transition of the souls of the departed to the afterlife. Most often this describes someone who enables this passage, but it may also describe someone who disembodies souls for another purpose, such as collectors or devourer of souls.
