While the Magic category identifies those characters of mystical origin, the Magician category identifies those characters who practice the arcane arts. Whilst "magician" might sometimes imply tricks or stage magic, in this case it is used to describe all arcane practitioners or "spellcasters" - according to their particular style, these characters might alternatively be identified as cultists, druids, elementalists, enchanters, geomancers, illusionists, mages, ritualists, shamans, sorcerers/sorceresses, witches, wizards, voduns, or any number of similar terms.

Examples of magicians in popular comic books would include Dr. Strange, Dr. Fate, Zatanna and John Constantine.
