A Rising Star

Hailey Kole lived the normal life of a bright, young, 15 year old in 2004's Galaxy City. Hanging out with friends in school and out, shopping on the weekend, life was great. But one day while walking home from school, Hailey and her friends were suddenly attacked by a group of strangely dressed men. While there should certainly be many heroes around, their cries for help fell on deaf ears and while they tried to fight back, the group of high school-ers were certainly no match for these Council recruits. It all happened in a flash, Hailey was living life one second and the next she's waking up on what looked like a surgical table in a Council base. Everything seemed to be lit in a dark purple hue as she gazed at her surroundings, noticing several people surrounding her and some other people on tables like her. No sooner that her mind started to question what was going on that a scientist noted she was awake and greeted her. "Ah you're conscious, excellent..." he started and like any great no named person of an organization he exclaimed, "I hope you're ready because you're going to be my greatest work yet, the Council's greatest weapon!" Hailey quickly understood the situation and tried to cry out but found herself unable to speak, unable to close her eyes. "Don't fret, those Nictus crystals I put in you will keep you nice and safe, for those Nictus rely on your life to keep their own!" he laughed, "When Arakhn sees you, I'll be promoted to Ascendant for sure! Now just wait here, my little ticket to the top, I'll be right back to release you and we can get to testing out those powers." While the doctor rambled on about his promotion as he walked away, Hailey cried for help, trying to wriggle herself free from the restraints, but it was no use, she couldn't move. When the man returned he released her from the table and brought her to a stand. When she tried to run, nothing happened, instead her body was doing everything the stranger told her to do! It was if she was trapped in someone else's body. That's when another voice communicated to her, seemingly from her own thoughts, "You want to be free, yes?" "Yes! YES! Please save me whoever you are!" Hailey screamed to herself. "Then we will be free." The voice retreated and suddenly a bright flash of light happened, but she still couldn't shut her eyes so she looked to the least bright part and as soon as the nova of light appeared, it was gone. When Hailey looked around there was nothing but rubble and a bright purple ray of light from the ceiling. She unknowingly floated to it until she was outside, free in the open air of what looked like a purple version of Perez Park. Finally able to collect herself while she hovered above the trees out of pure reflex, she managed to communicate with two other, perhaps infantile, Nictus that were trapped in her mind. They told her how she was blinded but they would be her eyes if she didn't mind the purple hue, how they shared their power with her and she with them, how they would protect her (leaving out the part that they were barely hanging on in their weakened state). With the explosion destroying the entire Council base where she was trapped, heroes eventually came to the scene and brought her under their wing.

A Falling Star

After 4 years of training under the supervision of Moonfire and of the Peacebringer Army, Hailey Kole donned a red-white-and-blue themed costume (after everyone's favorite hero) and became the hero called Hopestar. With her Warshade powers becoming ever stronger, she got the chance to work alongside the famous heroes she always heard about in her non superpowered part of her life, people like Synapse and Sister Psyche. Getting to be a part of the second Rikti War and helping establish the Rikti War Zone were very cool parts of her life, but inevitably being a Warshade, Hopestar worked alone most of the time. Hunting, searching, destroying everything to do with Council was her ultimate goal. But being a hero wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Shunned by Peacebringers and Warshades alike for not being a "true Kheldian" and feared by the general populous for using her powers sourced from "frightening, evil aliens", Hopestar began to doubt if being a hero was for her. Urged on by the whispers of her Nictus crystals, Hailey began a reign of vigilante justice against groups she saw as undeserving of mercy. Groups like the Council, Vahzilok, and Arachnos. She started to hear public outcry of her actions when she had to work with other heroes about her methods being "too brutal" on some occasions. This didn't really phase her but the coinciding of the loss of her supergroup with the events of the whole Darrin Wade debacle really made her think. "Why should I label myself as a hero when they only push me away, afraid of my power? I have saved countless lives and never truly respected for it, no one's idol. I am just trying to exist, trying to do my best to protect the world and yet they whisper of me being evil behind my back. Well so be it, I'll be as evil as I need to be to save all of these fools!"

The Darkest Star

Donning a new white and gold costume, Hopestar felt more free than ever, no longer chained by the rules of heroes. As not truly a villain either, she is feared by both sides, as she takes on groups of enemies and missions alone that no one else would dream of taking on alone. On numerous occasions heroes and villains have watched as she absorbed the life essence of over 100 Nictus in a matter of minutes. Watched as she was brutally exploded by Hamidon, only to form her body back whole. Classified as a 'Weapon of Mass Destruction', Hopestar has absorbed countless Nictus in pursuit of a dream: Enough power to never have to worry about saving the world again. As a result of that, you get what you have before you; an endlessly shapeshifting immortal that only desires to overwhelm, control, and absorb everything she considers an enemy to her dream. Even Mot is merely just more power to take. Can anyone stop her before she destroys everything in pursuit of this power?

To be continued.
