The battle of good vs evil wages war within Katherine Strife/Conscience. Her powers come at finding a balance between the two giving her control of the light (healing) or the dark (darkness control). Katherine is guided by an angelic and demonic spirits that can take over control of her body altering her appearance to reflect the controlling spirit. The former headmistress of the Paragon Academy, Katherine sought to guide young, gifted students on their journey to become heroes. She lost her students and school when her demonic side took control and accepted villains into the academy which led to war and the destruction of the Paragon Academy. Having lost her school Katherine now works as a substitute teacher, filling in as needed.
Katherine's powers require a great deal of balance in order for her to stay in control. She can often be found in reflection and meditation to keep her balance in check. Kate can appear crazy to some as she is often noticed talking to herself, when in reality she is arguing with the angel and devil spirits that taunt/tempt her.
