The sun reflecting off their gold plated suit that seems to be missing pieces and in disrepair in several places. "This hero calls himself 'Proto Gear' because they are always making a prototype of their suit but also want to be another light for the citizens of Paragon."
In reality, Alex is a mutant with power to breakdown her wealth to grant strength and healing. She runs a shipping/smuggling operation in the Isles but moonlights as a hero for her own goals. Business runs through her veins and she sees the value in everything, including people. Thus, despite living in a harsh environment she doesn't like killing if can help it.
