History

Early life

The only child of Adam Rose, a rookie hero who fought in both War World 2 and the Korean War, and Lillie Rose, a florist, Cerise Rose was born on February 17, 1945 in Paragon City. When she was only six years old, her father died during the Korean War devastating the young girl. Wanting to become a hero like her father, Cerise began working hard to join the military, even joining her high school's ROTC program. Despite her best efforts, her dream of joining the military ended after her mother fell ill and died shortly before her high school graduation. Fulfilling her mother wish to go to college, Cerise was able to get a fully paid scholarship to Paragon City University, where she began her major of Criminal Justice. Little did she know that her studies would lead her to a career in espionage.

Becoming a Spy

While attending PCU, Cerise was being scouted by the CIA after a recommendation from several of her professors who noticed her patriotic passion. One day, as she was out with a few of her friends, a masked man attempted to kidnap one of her friends. Using skills that she picked up from various self-defense courses, Cerise was able to subdue the kidnapper. As she went to check up on her friend, two men appeared. One of them congratulated Cerise on passing his test, which confused her and her friends. The man explained that he was looking for people who were interested in serving the United States as potential spies during the Cold War against the Soviets. Realizing that her dreams could be realized, Cerise jumped at the opportunity and agreed to accept their offer. She soon dropped out of school and moved to a secret facility where she trained for 18 months before becoming a spy. During this time, she was given an experimental serum that increased her durability, speed, and stamina. She underwent various amount of training with firearms, guns, and knives, with her being very comfortable wielding a katana. She was trained on how to be stealthy as well as strategies on how to extract information from targets.

After eighteen months, Cerise officially became a spy for the US government. Given the codename Amethyst, she was presented with the weapon that she is best known for, Amejisutoburēdo (Amethyst Blade), a crafted weapon made of a rare material that resembles the actual gemstone that has the ability to cut through anything. She was also given a specialized battle suit that allowed her to become invisible to most targets, various shuriken, and caltrops. It wasn't long before Cerise became one of the best spies in the world as she had stopped multiple coups from happening, to eliminating targets who were deemed untouchable, to recovering information that was later used to give the US an edge against the Soviet Union. To the enemy, she was like an "angel of death", sent to end their lives, while her allies were always happy she she worked with them.

By the time she reached her second year anniversary, she had eliminated over 100 targets for the CIA and other partnered organizations. Her various accomplishments led to the then head of the CIA Roger Vrabel choosing her to take part in Project Titan. This led to her clashing with several of the Soviet Union best spies, some of which gave Cerise her hardest tests that she faced as a spy. Her continued success led Vrabel to include her within his inner circle, a sign that showed that he trusted her completely. Soon she was accompanying Vrabel to various meetings with top government officials. It was one such meeting in 1967, that would change Cerise's life forever.

The Betrayal

Vrabel called everyone into a meeting and immediately Cerise noticed a change in Vrabel that she had never seen before. Earlier that day, the Supreme Court ruled against Vrabel and the Might For Right Act after three African-American heroes fought against being drafted and took their case to the Supreme Court which ruled in their favor in a 4-3 vote with two abstentions. Cerise was among the group chosen to bring in the three heroes, when they were surrounded by a group of heroes there to aid the three. It was at this time that Cerise began to wonder if this is what she was fighting for. After the ruling, Vrabel went on a tirade about how the courts would have the government lose to their enemies without the constant supply of heroes to fill their ranks against the Soviets and their allies. After a tense meeting, Vrabel orders Cerise to call the head of MI6, Neil McIntosh, which she did. After making the call, Cerise was allowed to stay in the office as Vrabel and McIntosh planned a meetup with several of their allies overseas in the country of Malta. After the call, Vrabel invited Cerise to go to the meeting as a bodyguard which she accepted.

As she was leaving the office, she was pulled aside by a senior official who demanded Cerise tell everything about the call with McIntosh. After telling the official what happened during the call, the official asked if Cerise could "remove" Vrabel from his position, something that she rejected immediately. The official demanded that if Vrabel does something out of line, she must take him out before his actions risked the safety of the country. Pondering on what the official said, Cerise joined Vrabel in Malta where they met various senior members of various western intelligence agencies. As history dictates, this was where the Malta Group was formed. Upon learning about their plans to fund this new group, Cerise realized that she must stop this from happening.

Upon meeting the senior official from earlier, Cerise explains the situation to him. The official orders a hit on Vrabel, but in order to not arouse suspicion, Cerise must change her appearance. On June 10, 1967, Cerise arrives at work at the CIA. After slipping by various checkpoints, Cerise entered Vrabel's office and carefully made her way over to him. As she silently drew out her blade, Vrabel noticed and pulled out a gun and aimed it toward her. The two began their fight, with each dodging the other's attacks while unleashing their own attacks. Their fight drew others to the room in which they tried to enter, but was unable to due to Cerise barricading the doors earlier with a sealant as well as furniture.

The battle raged for a few minutes before a flash of light appeared in between the two. The sudden appearance of a hero stunned Cerise enough that she was unable to focus on the fight and was shot several times by Vrabel who used the moment to his advantage. As she laid dying, the hero known as Frost Thunder was able to temporarily freeze Vrabel long enough for him to grab Cerise and take her away from the timeline.

A Wanted Fugitive

Cerise woke up in a strange place known as Portal Corp. She attempted to get up, but realized that she was strapped to a gurney and was barely able to move. She could hear people yelling at the hero who was the last person she saw before blacking out. As she listens, she learns that she is now in the year 2023, not 1967 stunning her. She also learns that due to her failed attempt to eliminate Vrabel, she was declared a traitor to the United States and considered a fugitive. Listening further to the discussion, she learns that a member of the Freedom Phalanx, Manticore, was on his way to take her in. With no time to lose, Cerise was able to free herself from her gurney, find her weapons and equipment, and attempted to make her way out of Portal Corp. On the way out, she discovered a random hero and takes them down after thinking that they were Manticore. She sees the hero attempt to use a device on their chest and rips it off of them. She then escapes with the stolen device and flees just as Manticore makes it to the facility. Upon hearing of her escape, Manticore put out a APB out for Cerise and considered her armed and dangerous.

As she eluded her pursuers, Cerise managed to find a black market dealer, who was able to modify the medi-porter to send her to a hideout that she discovered while on the run. She was also able to modify her outfit with up-to-date technology that allowed her better stealth.

After a few days of hiding out, Cerise decided that in order to clear her name, she must work on reestablishing herself as a force of good. She started off with petty crooks and thugs, before taking on groups such as the Circle of Thorns, and the Family. Each group she defeated, the views on her changed. Slowly, but surely, many people began to have doubts on what they were hearing about the former spy, many even began defending her on radio and talk shows discussing her. Slowly, but surely, she began to make a difference.

The End of the Road

While public opinion of her actions began to shift, Manticore and other heroes that were out to arrest her were not moved by her actions. Over the next few weeks, they attempted to arrest her, only for civilians to get in the way, allowing her to escape. As she continued to move from neighborhood to neighborhood, she began to gain more recognition for her actions. This all came to ahead when she made her way back to Peregrine island, the home of Portal Corp. After saving several of their employees from the Circle of Thorns, one of the top researchers of Portal Corp, Tina Macintyre, convinced Vanguard, who have been watching the situation from the sidelines, to intervene and allow for Cerise to turn herself in to them instead of Manticore. Lady Grey agreed to send someone to meet up with Cerise as she felt that adding her to their mission of defeating the Rikti would move more people to side with them and end Manticore's pursuit of her.

After saving a few more scientists from the CoT, Cerise began to make her way back to her secret hideout when she was approached by Manticore, who had his bow drawn. He ordered her to the ground and was about to arrest her when Incandescent, the head of PR branch for Vanguard appeared stating that Cerise was turning herself in to Vanguard. Attempting to take her, Manticore was told to stand down by Positron, as he had gotten word that Vanguard planned to send Cerise out to fight against the Rikti. Reluctantly Manticore relented, stating that she screws up even once, he will return.

After being inducted into Vanguard, the organization updated Cerise's suit to the latest upgrade, as well as presented her with a new modified suit similar to the one she wore during the sixties. After serving Vanguard for a few weeks, she was sent to the Freedom Phalanx where she was given a hero license and was overseen by Manticore who vowed to kill her if she strayed off the path. He had her join the Shining Stars, a fledging super group that he sponsors to keep an eye on her. So far, she had kept her end of the deal and is looking forward to taking down her former boss and the Malta Group.

Personality

Cerise Rose is a tall (5'11") woman of slender build who appears to be in her early twenties, although she is actually in her late seventies. Although quite shy at first, upon getting to know her, she will open up like a book, making her appear as a social butterfly. When it comes to her job, she is all business, preferring to let her blade do all the talking. While working, her personality tends to be colder as she was trained to not have emotion while on an assignment.

While not fighting, she enjoys walking around and enjoying nature, except with dealing with the Devouring Earth who had attempted many times to kill her while on her walks. While still getting used to the current timeline, she enjoys shopping and dining out to the point that she had become a regular in the various shops around the city.

Abilities

Cerise spent many years training her body, pushing herself to peak performance. This was further boosted when researchers at the CIA injected her with a test serum, which increased her endurance, as well as unlocking an ability to heal herself when badly injured. This ability also allows her to resist Toxic damage that would incapacitate a normal person. She has also trained her mind to resist mental attacks, which has helped her in more than one occassion. Her reflexes was sharpen to the point that not much could inflict damage to her unless she was careless with her target. Unlike most of her co-workers, she trained in swordsmanship and was considered one of the world's most dangerous assassins because of it.

Equipment

Cerise wears a body suit that has been modified several times over the years as newer technology became available. Her suit is designed to allow her to sneak up on most targets undetected and eliminate them quickly. While snipers can see though her camouflage. they usually don't last long enough to put her down. Her suit, while light, does provide her with protection against most damage. The suit also has an upgrade medi-porter which will allow her to use the city's various hospitals without the fear of being arrested.

Her main equipment is her katana. Known as the Amejisutoburēdo (or Amethyst Blade in Japanese), it was a weapon designed especially for Cerise by the CIA. Based off a material that was similar to Amethyst, this purple colored blade has the ability to cut through anything. This blade was also infused with mystical energy, allowing Cerise to deal various forms of damage to her foes if certain conditions are met.

In addition to the Amejisutoburēdo, she has various ninja weapons and gadgets that she deploy in rare situations.
