Helena Troy Martin was on a date with her long-term boyfriend, walking towards one of the lab buildings at Pacific Polytechnic in Pasadena, California, when The Big One hit. During the first aftershock, Helena fell when the floor dropped out from under her, and found herself in some manner of timeless void. In that void, she was disassembled, rearranged, and dropped into Paragon City, with some "enhancements" as if to make up for changing her eyes so drastically that she was left functionally blind.
