From the Beginning
Caitlynn was born in Los Angeles, California to Garrett McCree and Diane McCree (née Shaw). Her early childhood was a normal one, going to school, making friends, playing and growing up. Though things took a turn as she got older. Starting during her 7th grade year and fully peaking during her sophomore year in high school, people started around her started to fall ill. The symptoms were minimal, at first, with people showing signs of mild fatigue at most. As time went on, however, this escalated to symptoms such as severe nausea and weakness in larger groups of students in her class.
Her parents decided to take her to be checked by a doctor, thinking that she may be an asymptomatic carrier of some sort of communicable disease. During her examination, the doctors took note that the instruments being used would show signs of malfunction when in close proximity to Caitlynn. This fact, in combination with the symptoms described in those around her, led the medical staff to conclude that the mystery illness was, in fact, the beginning stages of acute radiation sickness.
After taking Caitlynn to wait for a bit in an empty Radiology room to prevent others from getting sick, she was introduced to a man named Kevin Wilkinson, a scouting agent of the G.I.F.T. organization out of Rhode Island, who explained that the phenomena surrounding the strange illnesses is not from a disease she carried, but from her own innate physiology. He spoke with her and her family, explaining that he worked with an organization that could help Caitlynn, but it would require a move to Paragon City. After some discussion, it was Caitlynn, herself who eventually pushed the hardest for the move, expressing a desire to learn about what was going on with her so that she could stop harming those around her.
The G.I.F.T. Program
Caitlynn would spend the remainder of her high school years and a short time into adulthood living in a dormitory and making friends with other mutants like herself. She continued to perform her studies remotely, allowing her to complete her courses with teachers she was familiar with and eventually graduating. During this time, she learned about her abilities and how to control them, learning that her body produced a biological fission reaction, causing radiation to be expelled from her body. She also learned that the reason people around her were getting sick was due to the fact that her uncontrolled powers became more active under situations of heavy stress, likely explaining the reason that her family was much less affected due to her much more relaxed home environment. After leaving the institute she became aware of the Superhero registration program through Freedom Corps, and decided that she should use the abilities she was born with to make a positive impact, to make up for the harm she previously caused.
