Meg is uncertain if this will happen for her, now that her planet is gone, her people mostly eradicated and the rest scattered to the stars. Maerynians live on largely aquatic planets - Earth is on the more dry side of worlds she would have visited on her journey - as they are amphibious, and above water, they communicate with electrical impulses, cloud manipulation, and the projection of winds. Meg is often seen to exude smaller, fluffy white clouds when happy or joyous, and darker storm clouds issue forth when she is upset. She eats no food on Earth, as her people generally absorb nutrients from the waters of the planets they inhabit, and powers her body by absorbing microcurrents such as static electricity from the environment around her. She usually sleeps partially-submerged, or meditates under waterfalls or in pools. | Like the rest of her people in this era, Meg has all-black sclera for eyes, and her head is topped with a series of tendrils that help her control her environmental atmosphere. Another unique skill her people have comes with a material from her homeworld. Maerynian ambassadors are given their first Garb, a unique bundle of water mixed with other molecules, cloud matter from Vognild Prime, and some particularly unstable kelp. Through the manipulation of their emotional atmospheric resonance, they can shape this water to create an outfit for themselves, generally in one of four shapes: Ambassador (pictured), Stormspeaker, Stormcaller, and Hunter. The four are largely symbolic, and are mutable depending on the wearer, but the cultural significance is profound. Meg generally stays in her Ambassador outfit unless fighting the Rikti, and will choose another Garb as appropriate. One purpose of the Garb is to cover most of their skin, to protect them in general, but also to limit their skin contact until they are ready to open up more and interact with another species. Their torsos also require protection, both for their gills, and some parts of their reproductive systems. The gills cover a broad horizontal swath of Maerynians' chests, and are more or less pronounced in certain parts based on individual biology. This body shape difference is often interpreted by the species that they meet as a gender assignment, which they usually welcome without argument. Both "male" and "female" Maerynians are capable of producing offspring, and do so in the same way. | Another unique skill her people have comes with a material from her homeworld. Meg, as she is commonly known, is an alien, an ambassador to this world, and a persistent fighter of Rikti. She is represented by an Electricity Control/Storm Summoning/Ice Mastery Controller. Her alts are a Water Blast/Storm Summoning/Electricity Mastery Corruptor, and a Storm Summoning/Storm Blast/Electricity Mastery Defender, all Security Level 50.
Background
As an ambassador to her people, the young Maerynian - like many of her peers - was sent out among the stars, trained and capable even in youth, to study and live among the races of the galaxy. The Maerynians are an adapable, mutable race, whose survival depends on interacting with species that are the pinnacle of a given world, and taking back home what they learn of these unique traits, qualities, and attributes. They have borrowed, combined, and melded the experiences and abilities of countless beings, over eons, and grown to be what they are now. This Maerynian was sent out in the same year as her equals - called Dall'ton, in her tongue; and so the surname of each one sent out the same year. She was sent to the greater star system that her people labeled in order, resulting in her given name, M'gg. Her fellow Dall'ton ambassadors - such as M'kk, H'mm, or T'll - all reside some number of larger systems away, and their time tables are nebulous. Whenever an ambassador is certain they have obtained enough from the world(s) they visit to take home, they depart, to return home to Vognild Prime, the Maerynian homeworld, and distribute those gifts to their peers, elders, and newlings - ambassadors to be.
Or they would, except during this generation, Vognild Prime, along with the other ancillary homeworlds of Meg's species, were obliterated in their entirety. Word got around via subspace contact, and M'gg learned that the culprit is a group called the Rikti, and that the most recent sighting of any of this species was on a world she was already planning to visit. Moving up her timetable, the young member of the fading species packed up her belongings and moved to Earth.
Her journey among humankind took three distinct phases: First, Vanguard welcomed her and partnered her with some crimefighters willing to help her investigate the Rikti. Second, she joined a group of youthful hero aspirants, learning more about human living. And now, she functions as a known entity around the Rikti War Zone, taking the battle to their mothership with intense vitriol many nights a week.
She has also met many friends, learned more about humanity, and even taken on a wedding proposal, from a being older than most of the known universe. Song of the Old Ones gave her a silver ring in the appearance of several tendrils laden with diamond "suckers" holding a black gem. The gem seems to glow ever so faintly, and like Song's eyes, a close look shows stars, galaxies, and nebula within.
Biology
The Maerynian people are a unique race, over much of the galaxy. They have been evolving since life first formed on Vognild Prime, and the fortuitous combination of other species on the planet already as well as an early visiting species allowed them to quickly learn their capabilities and begin spacefaring and spreading out. Their skin is a barely-translucent membrane, under which their internal fluids and organs can be seen if enough pressure is applied, like trying to read a book through a brick of gelatin. This membrane has several properties that Vanguard is trying to study while Meg is in their employ. The most important of which is what makes her species so special: She absorbs DNA, metaphysical properties, inborn abilities, innate traits, and more, through skin contact. It is never guaranteed, it is never purposeful, but it is always beneficial. The biology of Meg's people sorts through what would be most useful for her and can result in several possibilities. She could gain the traits of another species, adding their power to her own; she could assume a form closer to theirs, shifting gradually; or the most rare possibility - a child could form, at which point she will be compelled to return to her people and share with them what she has developed.
Meg is uncertain if this will happen for her, now that her planet is gone, her people mostly eradicated and the rest scattered to the stars. She has yet to change in any meaningful way among humans, but there are so many diverse and multifaceted people on Earth that she supposes there isn't enough consistency to produce these effects for her.
Like the rest of her people in this era, Meg has all-black sclera for eyes, and her head is topped with a series of tendrils that help her control her environmental atmosphere. The sides of her had are adorned with sonic-sensitive fins, as opposed to ears, and she hears somewhat better underwater than above, but either is fine. Maerynians live on largely aquatic planets - Earth is on the more dry side of worlds she would have visited on her journey - as they are amphibious, and above water, they communicate with electrical impulses, cloud manipulation, and the projection of winds. They have never adapted facial expressions, and despite having the ability to speak, never emote with their faces.
Personality and Current Life
Nowadays, Meg is still the bubbly, friendly, somewhat awkward alien she has been all along. She greets new people with a fluffy white cloud of friendship, and informs them she is extra-terrestrial with glee. ((If you wish a comparison, somewhere between Pippi Longstockings, Miss Martian, and Starfire.)) Her demeanor shifts, visibly and atmospherically, when the Rikti enter the conversation. She still seeks retribution for her world, promising to slaughter as many Rikti as they have of her people, a project still in progress. In addition, she works with Vanguard to both investigate how Rikti - notably more from around here than originally thought - got all the way out to her homeworld and destroyed it. But more importantly than both of those, she seeks to increase her friends and keep them safe.
