Appearance
Maria wears her modified pink Fortunata uniform with pride, believing it to be a symbol of her loyalty to Arachnos that also expresses her individuality. She generally doesn't wear the standard-issue helmet so she can be recognized for her efforts unless there's a need to conceal her identity. ("Plus, why would I wanna hide a face this cute?")
Her casual clothing aims to be stylish and tends to incorporate reds and pinks.
When posing as the superhero Pink Psionic, Maria dons a pink-and-white spandex top with a white "Optic" symbol on her chest and pink stars on the sleeves, pink gloves with white stars near the elbow, a pink-and-white miniskirt with pink shorts underneath, thigh-high pink boots with white stars near the top, and a pink cape with a white star pattern on the back. A simple pink eye mask covers her face, as well.
Maria keeps her body trim and fit for her vanity and her duties. Her blonde hair is usually tied back in two circular buns. She favors red lipstick, black eyeliner, and light eyeshadow both on and off duty.
Personality
As the child of two Arachnos soldiers, Maria has been steeped in the organization's ideology her whole life. Thus, she believes that only the strong thrive while the weak are meant to be subjugated. She counts herself among the strong thanks to not only her mother's high rank but also her own psychic abilities. Because of that, she's confident to the point of haughtiness, often looking down on and insulting those she considers "beneath" her. However, there's another side to this confidence: her father's betrayal of Arachnos makes her believe she has to prove she won't be a "weak coward" like him.
Though seemingly loyal to Arachnos, Maria also aims to accumulate power and prestige for herself. She's more than willing to trod on anyone she needs to achieve that, but she'll also aim to make connections with powerful, important figures and anyone she could exploit later. She doesn't trust easily, so it's hard for her to make real friends. The few she considers equal to her have the best chance, but even they are not safe from a transactional relationship at best and an exploitative one at worst.
Maria strives to stand out in both her professional and personal lives, hence her custom pink uniform and her fashionable clothing. She cares a lot about her appearance and takes great care of her body, hair, and makeup. Despite her desires to prove herself and gain power and prestige, she hates "dirty" jobs that might mess up her carefully kept appearance. She will complain for hours if she has to go into the sewers for the nth time.
History
Born to a Fortunata Seer (later Mistress) mother and Crab Spider father meant that Maria was destined to be entangled in Arachnos's web from birth. Her childhood was largely dedicated to learning about Arachnos's history, purpose, and beliefs, which she was further exposed to in the Spiderling Scouts. Maria took well to these teachings, showing a propensity for taking charge and showing off her budding skills. When Maria was still young, her father betrayed Arachnos. She still doesn't know why or how, only that he was marked for execution for his crimes. Maria hasn't seen him since and assumes he's dead, which is fine by her; she doesn't want to be tied to a "weak, cowardly traitor."
Maria's psychic abilities fully manifested during her puberty, when she began dedicated training with her mother. At 16, she was enrolled in Arachnos's training program. Thanks to her mother's connections, she had top-notch teachers. Maria claims that her prodigious performance in training was all her own talent, but there are rumors that her mother had a hand in securing her high marks. Maria thinks they're just jealous. She became an officially recognized Fortunata at 18, when she also became involved with the now-defunct Tartarus Academy.
Mysteriously, her name is on the list of Kalinda's Destined Ones.
