NAME: Diego Davis
ALIAS: Celsius
AGE: 28
BIRTHPLACE: San Antonio, TX
POWERS:
- THERMOKINESIS
Diego possesses the ability to control manipulate temperature.
Abandoned at birth, Diego Davis was adopted by a young couple who’d always wanted a child but were unable to conceive. Inquisitive and curious even as a baby, Diego’s parents sated his thirst for knowledge, providing him with every educational tool he’d need to eventually succeed in life. As he matured, his above-average intellect was easily recognizable, inevitably leading to a full scholarship to wherever his scholastic endeavors took him. With a passion for science, Diego began studying under a Dr. Warren Reed, a brilliant physicist. Dr. Reed was the chief scientist for thermodynamic research at the Hoffman Industries, a subsidiary of Obsidian International. His superior in the bureaucracy, Fabian Cross, drove Reed relentlessly to develop projects for Hoffman Industries under constant threat of being fired.
However brilliant he was however, Reed was also well known for his rather… unconventional beliefs in certain fields of knowledge. He had a habit of challenging long-established schools of thought with little to no evidence as to whether his theories held water. His latest labor? Proving the existence of a fifth law of thermodynamics, despite all evidence as to the contrary. Born of feelings of inadequacy, Reed’s need to be correct above all others hindered what could have been a legacy full of achievements. Jealous of the awards and honors of his peers and academic rivals, Dr. Reed’s need for recognition eventually overrode his morality when he made the decision to conduct an experiment that he believed would prove his theories, even though he was aware it would be incredibly dangerous.
In preparation, he made sure he would be safely shielded by the control panel’s containment field. But Diego? Diego would not be. Risking the life of his research assistant was a worthy gamble in his mind. Diego was no idiot however. He knew how dangerous his professor’s experiment would be, but he went along with it because he believed he might be able to save him if things did indeed go sideways.
And go sideways they did.
The professor was unable to contain an unstable collision of particles and it caused an explosion to rip through the lab, nearly killing both he and Diego. Miraculously, the two survived with a few non-life threatening injuries. After a lengthy period of both observation and recuperation, Diego was allowed to return home. Mulling over the events of that unfortunate day, Diego realized Dr. Reed was fully aware that the experiment could’ve killed him. His temper flared and suddenly, the curtains in his room caught fire. Panicking, he reached out and a wave of chilled air washed over the flames, extinguishing them almost as fast as they had appeared. Through self-experimentation, Diego discovered he could now control the temperature in his immediate vicinity, projecting intense coldness or creating fire and flames.
In spite of his mentor, Diego decided to use his new abilities to become a superhero.
Diego possesses the ability of thermokinesis, meaning he can alter the kinetic energy between particles at the atomic or molecular level: the greater the movement of these particles, the greater the thermal energy and reversed. He cannot create heat or cold; he can only rechannel temperatures around himself and thus, he needs the presence of heat to generate cold, and vice versa.
While Dr. Reed’s experiment was born of egoism and greed, Diego’s response was of altruism and selflessness.
- How Do I Shot Web Diego was initially unsure of how to use his abilities. There've been more than a few times where he's accidentally set something on fire when gets hot or inadvertently frozen something when he loses his cool.
- Magic Vs Science Will often claim that it doesn't exist or that it's just another branch of science, despite having met and knowing multiple magic users. Those who know him well have suggested the real reason Diego never acknowledges magic as real is that he's no longer the smartest guy in the room whenever the subject comes up.
- The Science Hero Though he possesses powerful superpowers, Diego frequently uses science and or technology to save the day. He's always considered his mind to be his true superpower.
