The hero known as "Parhelion" is an independent hero operating out of Paragon City. His primary power is the ability to absorb and wield solar energy for a variety of applications. Before he was a hero, the man who would become "Parhelion" was an insurance salesman specializing in "Superhuman Damages" policies, which were intended to protect civilians from the financial burden that often resulted from heroes and villains warring in Paragon City. His role specifically was to visit and evaluate properties that were seeking insurance to properly assess the potential loss. It was during one of these evaluations that he found himself at SolaDyne Energy Systems, a bleeding edge research laboratory specializing in experimental avenues of energy production. Their latest project, the one that had drawn him there, was the Apollo Engine, an experimental fusion reactor that had been built to mimic the conditions of the sun and could produce enough energy to power a small country. As the evaluation was going on, an unknown villain (later determined to be a disgruntled and recently fired employee of the company) broke through the ceiling in an attempt to steal critical components from the reactor and damaged it's plasma confinement relay in the process. The reactor suffered a catastrophic failure, and the resulting explosion released an unimaginable amount of artificial solar radiation. This flood of energy triggered a latent gene somewhere in his cells, and its sudden activation allowed him to survive the blast unscathed. The influx of energy overloaded his biological systems, and he went into a 3 month coma. | |||
Upon waking up, his superpowers were extremely weak due to his lack of proper exposure to sunlight during his hospital stay. He then dedicated himself to a journey of self-improvement, training in hand-to-hand combat, studying leadership and conflict resolution techniques, and codifying what being a hero meant to him. At the end of this multi-year journey he chose to reenter the crime fighting world as "Parhelion". The 15 years since becoming Parhelion have been quite kind, in fact.
