Mary Ann Montecreif was jarred awake by blasting air raid sirens. Again. Fifth time this month! How rude! She had determined that this time she was just going to sit tight. No dag blammed alien menace was going to continually uproot her life. NO SIR. She'd been on this earth for eighty plus years and if she had her way it'll be eighty more before the Good Lord himself came with his hat in hand to take her off'n it.
Her disgruntled reverie was interrupted by a sharp knocking on the door.
"Mrs Montecrief! You have to get up and out! Come on." There was a short pause while Mary Ann prepared a sharp retort, but before she could spit it out, "This is not the Rikti. It's .. It's something else. Please." Something in that girl's voice. She was a little afraid. That neighbor girl doesn't do afraid. Not in all the years she'd known her.
Mary Ann grumbled as she moved, but she did start moving. "Okay, alright. I hear ya. No need to shout for goodness sake, I'm not deaf you know! Just let me grab Toto and I'll be right along."
Mary Ann picked up her little dog and exited her apartment, locking the door behind her. She followed behind the rest of her neighbors. Mary Ann Montecreif may be eighty something years old but she was as spry as anyone half her age. If a bit more deliberate about where she put her feet.
That dear neighbor girl, bless her heart, would wait at each landing for Mary Ann to make it, then race down to the next one helping everyone get down the stairs at all their best possible speeds.
When they got outside Mary Ann could smell the acrid burning and the smoke immediately began to make her eyes water. The morning sky was a crystal blue - a sharp Autumn morning if ever there was one. The dag blammed War Walls - horrible creations if you asked her, ruined the whole city scape! - were still active so this was, as that sweet neighbor girl said, not one of them alien invasions indeed.
Mary Ann and her neighbors let the neighbor girl escort them the three blocks to the Freedom Court building - the nearest fallout shelter. Then there was this terrific noise from behind.
"Keep going, Mrs Montecreif. No time for dawdling, please," the neighbor girl chided - undoubtedly just to get a rise out of Mary Ann. Oh, they would have such fantastic backs-and-forths, but always respectful. Mary Ann was about to say something when she caught the look in the girl's eye. She was looking back. Mary Ann turned to see what it was. And land sakes! It was something else!
A huge glowing - thing - that made itself from the concrete and asphalt and rebar of the street itself stood up. It was fifty feet tall if it was an inch!
The neighbor girl turned to face Mary Ann, "Get to the shelter. Hurry!" And then Mary Ann watched, transfixed as the girl stood to face the metal and stone monster.
The thing roared and threw bits of its fist at the girl. It was big and slow and the girl was small (well, average for a humang) and agile. She avoided the debris quite easily. The girl looked left and right before making a decision. She, now I know this sounds made up but I assure you it is not, she just up and grabbed Dr Whatshisname's brand new Jaguar car and threw it at the beast! It's the truth, I swear it! Get me a stack of Good Books and I'll prove it!
And as amazing as that sounds, oh my stars, this is what really happened. That Jaguar car hit the monster full in the broad of its chest. It made this terrific noise!
But all it did was make that damnable thing angry at that poor girl.
That thing let out this horrible bellow. Telling everyone in earshot - and it was quite loud so earshot covered a lot of area.
The road monster took a massive step and hauled a might arm into the air, screaming as it did so, and struck the ground causing it to shudder. The girl had been waiting for a direct attack, preparing to dodge left or right. The shockwave from the ground strike knocked her from her feet.
The horrible thing reached into its chest and pulled out that ruined car. Then with all its strength brought it down like a hammer on top of the girl.

Now that she's back in the atmosphere With drops of Jupiter in her hair She acts like summer and walks like rain Reminds me that there's a time to change, hey Since the return of her stay on the moon She listens like spring and she talks like June, hey Hey, hey, yeah

But tell me, did you sail across the sun? Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded And that Heaven is overrated? And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star? One without a permanent scar, and did you miss me While you were looking for yourself out there?

Now that she's back from that soul vacation Tracing her way through the constellation, hey, mmm She checks out Mozart while she does Tae-Bo Reminds me that there's a room to grow, hey, yeah

Now that she's back in the atmosphere I'm afraid that she might think of me as Plain ol' Jane told a story about a man Who was too afraid to fly, so he never did land

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet? Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day And head back to the Milky Way? And tell me, did Venus blow your mind? Was it everything you wanted to find, and did you miss me While you were looking for yourself out there?

Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken Your best friend always sticking up for you Even when I know you're wrong? Can you imagine no first dance, freeze-dried romance Five hour phone conversation The best soy latte that you ever had, and me?

But tell me, did the wind sweep you off your feet? Did you finally get the chance to dance along the light of day And head back toward the Milky Way? And tell me, did you sail across the sun? Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded And that Heaven is overrated? And tell me, did you fall for a shooting star? One without a permanent scar, and then you miss me While you were looking for yourself?

Na-na, na-na, na-na Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

And did you finally get the chance To dance along the light of day?

Na-na, na-na, na-na Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

And did you fall for a shooting star? Fall for a shooting star?

Na-na, na-na, na-na Na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na

And are you lonely looking for yourself out there?

In 1972, a crack commando combatant was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. They promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Paragon City underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as a soldier of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The Dory.

I have this recurring dream. It’s supposed to be me at least, I think it is. I’m always fighting. I’m fighting nightmarish creatures, things straight from the bowels of Hell. They are all teeth and horns and claws, scratching, slashing and burning everything in their path.

I fight them as long as I can as hard as I can. It doesn’t occur to me that I should run away. It simply isn’t an option. If I cannot stop them here then everything is lost anyway. It never takes them long to overwhelm me. When I die I am frustrated that I couldn’t do more, that I wasn’t strong enough, fast enough or skilled enough. I am sad that I didn’t save my loved ones, my friends or my world. I’m also relieved that it’s finally over.

Then I am at peace.

Then there is nothing.

Then I am awake again.
