Came to Earth from the planet Daxam in the mid80s. Powers come as a result of Daxamite physiology allowing him to absorb energy from geothermal and solar sources. |
Tal Kanz seldom talked about his planet, Daxam. Only the FBSA and a few select scientists knew it was a combination of geothermal and solar energies that powered his alien physique. As Captain Superior, he kept no secret identity. He was just "Cap," and he was perfectly happy as Lazon's second-in-command in The SOLUS Collective, helping to lead its fine, young, heroes. He lived with them and through them. He was "Uncle" to their children, "Son" to their parents, brother and mentor to them all.
In 2002, the Rikti came.
They lost eight that week, among them Lazon. As the new leader, Captain Superior saw the Rikti destroy their base, killing another dozen of their members. Under his watch, he and the remaining few finally fell to the Rikti assault, holding the front lines with the Vanguard and Statesman's Alpha Team while Hero 1's Omega Team sacrificed themselves for the world.
In 2005 they found him lying comatose beneath the ruins of the fallen skyscraper-turned-hospital they had been defending, his right arm vaporized, black and gold uniform in tatters, the scattered bones of his comrades all around him. After a year of solar and geo-thermal exposure, he eventually recovered, his arm regenerated, his skills returned, his contacts re-established. For a while, he wore the shell of his cybernetic arm in battle as a reminder of the debt he owed the fallen heroes of the SOLUS Collective and of the responsibility that he had to his new friends in the new SOLUS Foundation.
Not only did Tal recovered his powers and abilities and recreate the super group so well known in the nineties, his experiences taught him a valuable lesson. Painfully aware of his own 'humanity', and that of those he cares most about, he finally allowed himself the luxury of intimacy, finding it in the Foundation's newest second-in-command, Valstrasse Princess Regnant Alexandra von Azurin, also known as “Azure Noir.” Together, they took part in every major event noted in the histories of Paragon City, The Rogue Islands, and Praetoria. But, just when all seemed right, the Crisis of 2012 shook the world and duty called Azure home to the throne of Valstrasse with Tal by her side.
It wasn’t until a recent interview with People Magazine On-line that things changed. Besides noting his favorite food was whipped cream over broccoli and his favorite group was ABBA, Tal mentioned being a little envious of his children, all new Paragon City heroes. It wasn’t long after seeing the podcast that Positron reached out to ask Cap and Azzie to help out a bit on the side. Unable to resist, the two veterans are back, at least part-time -- whether the kids like it or not.
