In the mid to late 12th Century, Sir Thomas "the Worthy" Wordingtin was a Knight fighting for the Knight's Templar in the Third Crusade against the "infidels" for the Holy Land. After a particularly brutal skirmish, Sir Thomas was left for dead, but was taken in by a small camp of refugees displaced by the war. For months Thomas recovered within the camp, and grew friendly with its people, settling into a peaceful life away from the bloody war.
One day however, a band of rogue knights (disillusioned by the war), stumbled upon the camp. What at first started as a friendly pitstop, quickly turned violent. The knights began to rape and pillage, razing the camp. Thomas tried to fight back, but was quickly overwhelmed by the heavily armed assailants. Once again injured and bloodied, Thomas crawled into a crevice nearby, watching helplessly as the family and friends he had made and grown to love were savagely murdered right before his eyes. Sobbing, Thomas took a deep breath and closed his eyes, wishing for death to come. But as he was about to draw his final breath, a vison of a large Pharaoh Owl came to him, beckoning him to crawl deeper into the crevice.
Using the last of his strength, he crawled deeper and deeper into the crevice, until he fell into a large cave filled with water. There before him was a massive statue of the owl in his vision. There, on top of the statue, stood a man who introduced himself as Alta'iir Muaalim, Guardian of "the Blessing" or what the Templars had thought to be the "Holy Grail". Alta'iir explained that cave was one of many "Fountains of Blessings", where the pool of water had many rejuvenating properties. However, prolonged exposure
While soaking in the pool, Thomas began to watch his wounds slowly fade, and his body heal into peak condition.
