Origin

Ander Senior

Born in La Rochelle France, Ander Isais Sr. was first introduced to the world of magic when his own father Eder revealed his utilization of it during his childhood. While early adolescence held his interest, a witnessed event of his own father using magic to subjugate his mother drove him to make the decision to completely ignore such lineage. After this event, Ander Sr.'s relationship with his own father was rocky at best. Eventually, Ander Sr. met the love of his life, Nicole Lennox, during his undergraduate studies at the University of Edinburgh. Both possessed a camaraderie in the form of hating one or more of their parents for different twisted reasons. Further educational pursuits soon took a backseat to their happiness, and after a few years of jumping through hoops, they eventually established full status as Canadian immigrants - hoping that the ocean was large enough to separate them from the ill past.

During the first year of their new life however, Nicole began to show signs of a potential mental illness, or rather clearer and more prominent signs that were otherwise previously dismissed as personality traits and isolated incidences of stress and anxiety. Nicole refused marriage at every turn, and shortly after the birth of their first and only son, Ander Jr., such darkness in her was fully triggered and blossomed into a postpartum psychiatric disorder. During Ander Jr.'s second birthday, his mother seemingly vanished from their lives; getting up in the middle of the night and fading into the darkness. Within the five next short years that followed with no conclusive answers to her whereabouts, Ander Sr.'s concern, dread and sorrow morphed into disdain and resentment. His own efforts of attempting to track her, which included coming into contact with relatives overseas once again, ceased to focus solely on raising his son as a single parent. The reminder of his magical lineage didn't help during this process either, though little did the Anders know... that very thing would be responsible for both saving and cursing their lives.

Into the Web

A few years later, Ander Sr. reconnected with his niece and Junior's older cousin Christine for the first time since the first frantic years of the latter's missing mother. They were both invited to visit her in Paragon City, planning a birthday trip to celebrate Jr.'s 15th (2017). Unbeknownst to them this brought the taste of their Mu blood closer and more easily detectable by the Circle of Thorn's methods. They exposed themselves to the narking of the Codex of Bloodlines, or at the very least a similar thread, painting them as targets. During a stroll in Founders' Falls, the Thorns made their attempt to kill father and son. Ander Sr.'s instinct to protect Junior forced him to utilize magical abilities he hadn't used for years; exposing a truth he kept from his son for his own protection as the price of knocking away the would-be assassins. Ander Sr. made Junior promise to keep the ordeal a secret once they returned to Christine's apartment. The following week, Arachnos found their opportunity to approach the two exposed to have prominent Mu descendance utilizing an approachable, understanding and soft method. They promised both protection and the opportunity to truly learn and understand the blood and power they possessed; offering to handle every logistical concern as if their past lives no longer really mattered.

Lulled by twisted truths, ignorance of the web of terror and being taken advantage of emotionally, Senior and Junior agreed and were recruited into the Arachnos ranks. It soon became clear that not everything was as it seemed however, and before Senior realized just how grueling their training and conditioning would be among the Mu ranks, it was far too late - the breaking down, building back up and twisting of the psyche commenced. The initial conditioning program they were pushed into was complete after a year's time, though even as they became Strikers, it was quite clear that Ander Jr.'s magical potential far surpassed that of his father's... to the point where the Mu Division took notice and initially hid this fact from the rest of Arachnos until the true Hequat loyalists were able to successfully enlighten them (to an even bigger purpose not even Scirocco, or Lord Recluse himself was privileged enough to discover). As the years started to go by the father and son duo managed to survive and even begin to thrive for their ability to find success and please their superiors, expanding their Mu horizons. Ander Jr. also expressed some of his non-magical academic skills within his continued education. It was perturbing to say the least when a few Mu mystics fresher than they were began to climb to higher arbitrary titles before the Anders themselves. This was purposeful.

Almost Off Course

Portrayal Concept

Behind the scenes, Ander Jr.'s potential and ability to increase his power at an accelerated rate made him the target of more special methods of drawing out his potential, attempting to insight frustration among other things. Ander Sr.'s concern for his son never appeared to diminish, and as he was witnessed "calming down the storm that was Junior" one too many times for Arachnos, he was deemed a liability and made to have a more important role in his son's life. During a mock promotion ceremony on Ander Jr.'s 20th birthday, Ander Sr. was brutally killed in front of his son who was made to watch regardless of his protests; torn to shreds by a Crab Spider. While this was successful in enabling him to tap into a deeper, darker part of his being and utilize such raw emotional rage as the perfect conduit to elevate his greatness... the expected slaying and destruction of all of those involved in the faux-ceremony didn't appear to affect his loyalty to Arachnos afterward. Not on the surface.

For the next two years following, Ander Jr. bid his time, utilizing his magical talents to hide his deepest intentions and his ability to compulsively lie and manipulate others all the while being exposed to even deeper secrets of the Mu as an Adept. This period was marked with his ability to distinguish himself as a member of the new generation of Mu mystics, incorporating physical aptitudes beyond just the magical - he became known as Red Cerauno, donning the modern version of the Mu Division's uniform that gave new freedom to the limbs of such revitalized numbers. The loyalists of Hequat also used this period as an opportunity to further cement Ander Jr.'s loyalty as well, which he happily continued upon learning that he would see his father again very soon. If not after death where he would join him in the mysterious spirit city of Hequat, then within his dreams or through rituals. The "true Mu" played a part in reinforcing Ander Jr.'s decision to eventually go AWOL without a drop of notice without publicly condoning it, seeing merit in his desire to experience elements and aspects beyond what he'd already learned...

Timeline

• (September 1st 2024) - Ander Jr. recklessly breaks rank and all communication with Arachnos, disappearing off the map.
• (October 31st 2024) - Ander Jr. is finally spotted in public again since his disappearance, at a Halloween party.
• (November 4th 2024) - Ander Jr. is spotted in Night Ward.
• (November 19th 2024) - Ander Jr. is caught on the CCTV of the Rescue Rainbow Shelter in Cap Au Diable, one of the main Arachnos fronts for Operation: Rainbow Spider. Operative Putnam is responsible for the report.
• (December 4th 2024) - Arachnos is finally successful in apprehending Ander Jr. As he is still considered a very valuable asset, he is spared most usual punishments (he was water-boarded a bit during the negotiation) upon agreeing to be transferred into an Arachnos cell that may prove to be a compromise. When interviewed and debriefed on anything potentially useful or detrimental, he simply explains that his time away was spent either reading magical literature or "partying hard" in the LGBTQ+ scene.

Personality Profile

TL;DR - Ander Jr. is arrogant, vane, vengeful, manipulative, two-faced, passive-aggressive, hedonistic, enjoys gossip and is only sympathetic to those who are worthy to him. He also strangely finds time to stay loyal. Prior to Arachnos twisting his psyche, Ander Jr. was more conscientious, sensitive, patient, mellow and an introvert. He has an affinity for languages and talks to himself out loud.

Prior to any involvement with Arachnos (i.e. the complete twisting of his outlook on life and the manner in which he engages the world), Ander Jr. was known as a fairly sensitive introvert. He possessed a keen sense of how others were affected by certain things, though much preferred focusing his own energy on one or two friends and keeping everyone else at arm's length. Nonsensically and boringly teased and bullied for being a pale ginger in elementary school, Ander Jr. hid such an experience from his father until he couldn't any longer, distracting himself with music, books, video games, television and whatever else provided him another world to escape to. Despite his love for escapism, he was also adept in observing and learning of the world in various ways. He had a deep sense of himself, was mature enough to determine the inklings of his preference that made themselves known starting from the age of eight, and easily came to terms with who he was growing up without paying heed to any doubt from the outside world. Hating himself was never a thing, and he was content in simply waiting until his life became better over time. By the time he reached high school, the bullying died down a bit while the prospect of girls finding him attractive kept him amused. Ander Jr. found his people and stuck with him, completely uninterested in jocks and the sports-cult. He demonstrated a knack for learning new languages, though possessed mediocre interest in math. Fortunately for Ander Jr., he was able to enjoy at least one year of testing the social waters and going to a couple of parties - at least one of which exposed him to naughty things like underage drinking, cannabis and completely lying to parents.

Post the grand arachnid awakening, the consistent drilling of his potential, combined with purposeful trauma and brain washing, nurtured or outright created a few negative aspects. He has grown into a young man of great arrogance, a sense of superiority and with little to no problem in using whatever he has to manipulate others. His vanity takes the form of toxic self-love even if it keeps him in shape, and considers first impressions intimately. Ander Jr.'s sympathy is reserved only for those he likes or deems useful to him, his ability to actually empathize has been buried deep in his twisted psyche, and he was taught to dehumanize those who do not share his future. He is quite promiscuous and hedonistic in most of his life ventures. He also enjoys antagonizing and tormenting his considered enemies or even just rivals that threaten to take what he desires. Fortunately, he does retain some of the favourable qualities from his nature: his curiosity, kindness (though conditional) and dark sense of humour and apathetic or even amused reactions to subjects and events deemed disturbing to some. This essentially renders him open-minded in a sense, for while he may not agree, or react negatively to someone for what they say or do, he's at the very least willing to listen and watch. Ander Jr. knows he's powerful, knows he's intelligent, and knows he's better than you unless proven otherwise.
